Park Tudor's Kevin Rex Heading to Ivy League

Getting accepted into an Ivy League school is extremely difficult.  Actually attending an Ivy League school is even more difficult.  Now that he has officially been accepted and has given his commitment to the baseball program, Park Tudor’s Kevin Rex believes he understands the challenges he will face as a student-athlete at one of the most prestigious universities in the world, Harvard University.

Rex, will join the Harvard baseball program in the fall of 2013.  Though his official commitment came only a week ago, Rex decided earlier this fall that he wanted to attend and be a part of an Ivy League program.   Rex had a conversation with a former Park Tudor player and Yale graduate, Chris Sweeney on what it’s like to attend an Ivy League school and also play sports, which helped lead Rex in making his decision.

“Make an academic decision as opposed to an athletic decision,” Sweeney told Rex, “if you can be there without baseball, you’ll be able to get the academic work done.”

Rex credits attending Park Tudor High School as main factor in being accepted into Harvard.

“Park Tudor is a small, private school in Indianapolis, and has a high reputation in academics.  The classes are smaller than most high schools in the area, and the teachers and staff are truly committed to their students’ academic success.”

Athletically, Rex is more than capable of playing baseball at Harvard.  The 6-foot-1, 175 pound senior is a standout both on the mound and in the outfield where he possesses a strong arm that’s been up to 88 mph.  He has received interest from 15-20 schools, with many making official offers.  Several schools interested in him have either competed for conference titles, gone to the NCAA Regionals, and in once case made it to Omaha.

Rarely do you find a kid special enough athletically and academically that can play in the Ivy League. What is even rarer is finding a kid that will choose academics over athletics.  Having seen Rex perform in our showcases, watching him throughout the spring and summer, and getting to know him personally, Rex is definitely that special type of student athlete that should see nothing but success at the next level.
