Bloomington Preseason ID : Quick Hits

On Saturday, February 17th, the PBR Indiana staff traveled to Bloomington, Indiana to host the Bloomington Preseason ID. This event kicked off our Preseason ID tour and was held at Mellencamp Pavillion on the campus of Indiana University.

32 prospects from around the state showcased their talents this past weekend and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Indiana staff. Read along to find notes on the top perfomers of the day.

+ '26 2-way Collin Marcum (Bloomington South), a pop up '26 unknown to our staff before the event, walked away as the biggest winner. There is wiry strength in a 6-foot-1, 175 pound frame with arm strength being the standout tool for Marcum. His bullpen session was his best performance of the day - using a quick right arm paired with an athletic delivery to produce a fastball that was up to 88 mph, living at 85-86. Marcum gets to full extension at release, moving down the mound with quickness to allow a firm fastball to play up. Marcum showed the ability to kill spin & execute a 76-77 mph changeup, along with flashing an upside breaking ball at 70-72 mph with up to 15" of horizontal break. On the offensive side of the ball, the arm is the carrying tool, posting a 92 mph velocity from the outfield. A 6.80 runner with a frame packed with twitch, Marcum was able to produce a peak exit velocity of 93.5 mph with a quick, rotational swing from the right-side. The arm talent is intriguing and Marcum will be a priority watch for our staff during the spring. 

+ '26 RHP Brogan Hanna (Bloomington North) has made serious progress within his development compared to looks last summer. Hanna improved his fastball velocity by 7 mph compared to last summer, now sitting 82-85 mph on a true carry fastball. Hanna was able to get 20" of IVB at times, averaging 18.1", and his 6-foot-5, 175 pound frame suggests there is still plenty of velocity left in the tank. An above average mover with some quickness in the arm, Hanna works from an over-the-top slot to create downhill ride on his fastball. A strike-thrower with two above average off-speed offerings, Hanna showed a 66-70 mph slurve with solid shape, a pitch that will improve as he throws it with more intent, and a fading changeup that averaged 15.6" of horizontal break. An upside '26 arm with a body to dream on, Hanna will be another priority watch for our staff as '26s get closer to August 1st, when recruiters can officially contact 2026 graduates. 

+ '25 RHP/SS Adler Holtz (Valparaiso HS) was another prospect that has seriously elevated his game this offseason. Holtz improved his fastball from 77-80 mph at last summer's Northwest Indiana Open, now sitting 84-87, touching 88 mph. The proportional, 6-foot-2, 195 pound right-hander works with little effort from an over-the-top slot to create downhill angle on a riding fastball (16"+ IVB). I really liked how easy the delivery was, allowing him to fill the zone consistently with all three of his offerings. The fastball is certainly his best pitch, but he also showed an 11/5 shaped curveball with depth at 71-72 mph, and flashed a changeup at 73-75 mph. I like Adler as an arm more than as a bat, but he did show some two-way prowess as a physical infielder with plenty of arm strength (89 mph across) and solid bat strength (96 mph exit velocity).

+ '24 OF Wesley Taylor (Corydon Central) is a solid unsigned senior from the southern part of the state. A twitchy, 5-foot-10, 170 pounder with a CF profile, Taylor turned in the best 60 yard dash of the event with a 6.63. A plus runner, Taylor showed bat speed within a rotational right-handed swing that helped him produce a max exit velocity of 94.5 mph. Taylor batted .458 as a junior with 16 extra-base hits at Corydon and is one of the top-ranked uncommitted outfielders in Indiana's 2024 class. 

+ '24 SS Chris Lewis (Batesville) was another unsigned senior that showed well in Bloomington. There is obvious strength within a compact, 5-foot-11, 190 pound frame - helping him to an event-best 97.2 mph exit velocity. There are strong rotational capabilities in the swing as the barrel turns tight with above average bat strength at impact. Defensively, Lewis played full-tilt, unafraid to play downhill with aggressive feet. The glove actions are sure and his arm is an average tool (80 mph infield velocity). Lewis profiles best as an offensive-orriented 2B at the college level. 

+ '25 2-way Oliver Holtz (Valparaiso) was another prospect with a solid day in Bloomington. Holtz showed a very well-rounded toolset, grading above average in every category that he participated in. A simple, handsy swing - he gets his front foot in the ground early before turning the barrel on a level plane with solid barrel accuracy and some strength (92.8 mph exit velocity). Holtz turned in a 7.07 60 yard dash with an above average outfield arm, up to 88 mph. To round out a full day, Holtz hopped on the mound to sit 82-85 mph on a fastball with arm side run. Oliver showed a 72-74 mph slider and 76-77 mph changeup, as well. Projectable at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds - Oliver still has plenty of growth left in his frame to continue to improve a solid overall toolset.
