The Buzz : Recruiting News on Indiana Juniors

We have heard plenty of buzz about uncommitted juniors lately after a number of prospects elevated their status at our recent Preseason All-State Upperclass event. As these prospects enter their junior season, we bring you the latest recruiting news. Read along to learn about recent commitments, which schools are in contact with top-ranked recruits, where they are taking visits, and who they have offers from. 


+ The top-ranked uncommitted player in the junior class, SS JD Stein (Carmel), has been busy with recruiting since decommitting from Louisville in late-February. After a big showing at the Preseason All-State, Stein has been in talks with TCU, Indiana, Tennessee, Arizona State, Kentucky, Duke, Northwestern, and Ohio State, so far. He has visited and received an offer from Indiana, at this point, with several other schools planning to see him this spring season.

+ CF Maalik Perkins (Whiteland) recently made his commitment to Ball State University following the Preseason All-State. A Future Gamer from 2023, Perkins picked Ball State over interests from Michigan and Kent State.

+ RHP Ivan Mastalski (Andrean) committed to Indiana University after having one of the biggest performances of any uncommitted player at the Preseason All-State. Mastalski picked the Hoosiers over interests from Dartmouth and Cincinnati.

+ LHP Lucas Collins (FW Dwenger) has received a lot of buzz lately, the top-ranked uncommitted southpaw in the junior class. Another standout from the Preseason All-State, Collins currently holds offers from Nebraska and Evansville. He has made visits to both schools, and visited Tennessee this past weekend. Collins has also been in contact with Notre Dame, Indiana, Indiana State, Northwestern, and Mississippi State, as well.

+ RHP Logan Cotton (Crown Point) has received some buzz lately after a strong showing at the Preseason All-State. A Future Gamer in 2023, Cotton has heard from schools like Butler, Indiana, Western Michigan, Michigan, Northwestern, Indiana State, SIU-Edwardsville and South Florida. The 6-foot-4 right-hander has visited Butler and Indiana.

+ OF Gabe Mathison (Carmel) emerged as one of the top uncommitted position players in the class at the Preseason All-State. The athletic, switch-hitting outfielder has heard from Ohio State, Northwestern, Davidson, Purdue, Arizona State, and Butler. Mathison has visited Davidson and Ohio State.

+ RHP Trent Kulig (Andrean) has heard from plenty of schools after performing at both the 2023 Future Games and 2024 Preseason All-State. In no particular order, Kulig has heard from Wright State, Bellarmine, Missouri, Ball State, Western Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Cincinnati, Butler, SIU-Edwardsville, and Eastern Illinois.

+ C Drew McTagertt (Harrison) was a standout at the Future Games in 2023, and also particpated in the recent Preseason All-State event. The #1 ranked catcher in the class has heard from Navy, Butler, Eastern Illinois, and Georgia Southern.

+ SS Joe Washburn (Saint Joseph) is another Future Games standout that has been receiving lots of interest. The left-handed hitting shortstop is hearing from Campbell, Eastern Illinois, Central Michigan, Yale, Missouri, SIU-Edwardsville, Northwestern, St. Thomas, and Butler. He has visited Butler, Yale, Central Michigan, and Eastern Illinois and currently holds an offer from Central Michigan and St. Thomas.
