St. Louis Invitational: Outfielders Analysis

Prep Baseball Report-Missouri held the St. Louis Invitational on February 20 at All-Star Performance in St. Louis. Nearly 80 players in the 2020 to 2018 class from around the St. Louis area participated.

In the days to come, we will break down the event position-by-position.  Today we will take a look at the outfielders. Twenty-two outfielders took part in the defensive evaluations, eight outfielders were 86 mph or above, with twelve of them with an 85 mph or better exit velo. Thirteen outfielders are in the 2018 class, seven were in the 2019 class, and two were in the 2020 class. Players are listed in alphabetical order.

Player's profiles have been updated with profile pictures, videos and stats from the event. Coaches will have new profiles to add their dashboard on ScoutPlus and players will be able to update information on their profile with ProspectPlus.

OUTFIELDERS

Alex Adams, OF, Lafayette (MO), 2018
Adams is a 6-foot-2 195-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.10 home to first and a has an exit veto of 88 mph. At the plate, smooth load into back leg, some hand movement, quiet, short in line stride, consistent line drives gap-to-gap, power to middle and pull side.  In the outfield, 90 mph positional velo, loose over the top release, arm works, throws down hill, athletic footwork, momentum through the catch, fluid exchange.

Anthony Altobella, OF, Vianney (MO), 2018
Altobella is a 6-foot-1 190-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.58 home to first and has an 89 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, controlled leg lift, short stride, level path through the zone, hands control the bat, swing produced pull side contact during batting practice.  In the outfield, 85 mph positional velo,

Joe Faron, OF, Francis Howell (MO), 2018
Faron is a 6-foot 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.47 home to first and has an exit velocity of 89 mph. At the plate, open stance short stride, smooth load, quick hands and bat speed, pull side power, body stays under control during swing, consistent hard pull side contact during batting practice.  In the outfield, 83 mph positional velo, works behind and through the catch, over the top release, fluid transfer and throw.

Alex Gauspohl, OF, Timberland (MO), 2018
Gauspohl is a 5-foot-10 150-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.22 home to first and has an exit veto of 87 mph. At the plate, thin and square stance, short stride, quiet hands, no wasted movement, swing produced solid consistent contact gap-to-gap.  In the outfield, 86 mph positional velo, loose arm action, feet create momentum through the catch, transfer and feet in sync, overall athletic actions with projectable build.

Kaden Helsel, OF, South Calloway (MO), 2018
Helsel is a 6-foot-1 180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.28 home to first and has an exit velocity of 83 mph. At the plate, slightly open with reverse to tap to stride, minimal hand movement, level path through the zone, quick bat speed, gap-to-gap approach.  In the outfield, over the top release, fluid exchange on time with feet, plays through the ball, momentum through the catch.  

Zack Hunsicker, OF, Francis Howell (MO), 2018
Hunsicker is a 6-foot-5 225-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.66 home to first and has an exit velocity of 94 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, controlled leg lift and hand load, short stride, aggressive and quick bat speed, power to the middle and pull gap, balanced swing.  In the outfield, 89 mph positional velo, high three quarter release, works through the ball, clean exchange, fluid footwork.

Jed Jones, OF, Saxony Lutheran (MO), 2019
Jones is a 5-foot-11 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.76 home to first and has a 78 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth pre swing rhythm, short stride, swing produced middle of the field line drives during hitting evaluations, hands control the bat, level swing path.  In the outfield, 77 mph positional velo, over the top release, feet work with hands on exchange, create momentum to throw.  
 
Bryce Kaibel, OF, Fort Zumwalt South (MO), 2020
Kaibel is a 5-foot-11 150-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 5.01 home to first and has a 78 mph exit velo. At the plate, slightly closed set up, short in line stride, body stays balanced during swing, bull side line drives during batting practice.  In the outfield, high three quarters release, plays through the ball, quick transfer, long limbed frame, projectable, 69 mph positional velo.

Kobe Knisley, OF, Timberland (MO), 2019
Knisley is a 6-foot-1 155-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.83 home to first and has a 79 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, controlled leg lift with smooth load, flashed quick bat speed, pull side contact during hitting evaluations.  In the outfield, 76 mph positional velo, over the top release, feet are active through the catch creating momentum, clean exchange.  

Adam Kopff, OF, St. Mary’s (MO), 2018
Kopff is a 6-foot 190-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.52 home to first and has an exit velocity of 82 mph. At the plate, slightly open stance, short stride, minimal load, hands manage the bat, line drives to both gaps during hitting evaluations.  In the outfield, 80 mph positional velo, plays through he ball, clean transfer, high three quarters release.  

Adam Lewis, OF, Francis Howell (MO), 2019
Lewis is a 6-foot-3 195-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.65 home to first and has an exit velocity of 87 mph. At the plate, open stance, long levers, quick bat with whipping action in bat head, hard middle of the field contact, repeats swing.  In the outfield, 78 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, momentum after the catch, fluid excahnge, projectable frame.  

Alex Luyet, OF, Smith Cotton (MO), 2018
Luyet is a 5-foot-11 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.24 home to first and has an exit velocity of 86 mph. At the plate, starts open and loaded in back leg, some hand load, in line stride, quick and aggressive hands, feel for the barrell, gap-to-gap approach, consistent hard contact up the middle during hitting evaluations.  In the outfield, 86 mph positional velo, over the top release, quick and loose arm, small crow hop, quick catch and throw.  

Craig McGee, OF, Lutheran North (MO), 2020
McGee is a 6-foot 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 4.70 home to first and has a 75 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance with fluid pre swing rhythm, short stride, minimal load, hands control the bat, body stays under control during swing, mostly pull side line drives during hitting evaluations.  In the outfield, 76 mph positional velocity, high three quarters release, fluid exchange on time with footwork, fluid footwork, projectable build.

Dylan Mooney, OF, Oakville (MO), 2018
Mooney is a 5-foot-10 175-pound left-handed hitting out outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.19 home to first and has an 89 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, hands separate from stride, controlled, slightly closed stride, quick bat speed, consistent line drives gap to gap during batting practice.  In the outfield, 83 mph positional velocity, over the top release, throws down lean, loose arm action, work behind and through the catch, exchange on time with footwork. 



Logan Payne, OF, DeSmet (MO), 2019
Payne is a 6-foot-3 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.43 home to first and has an exit velocity of 81 mph. At the plate, feet start in square position, minimal load, no wasted movement, short stride, balanced, level path through contact, consistent line drives to the left side of the field during batting practice.  In the outfield, aggressive through the catch, quick arm speed, over the top release, crow hop, long levered, quick transfer on time with quick feet, 90 mph positional velo.

Ben Prywitch, OF, Parkway Central (MO), 2019
Prywitch is a 6-foot-2 1160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.33 home to first and has an exit velocity of 85 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, hands walk away from stride, short stride, simple and repeatable swing mechanics, gap-to-gap contact, hits ball flat, line drives.  In the outfield, 83 mph positional velo, throws left, loose over the top arm action, attacks the ball with momentum after the exchange, fluid catch and throw with atolletic actions.

Ryan Rogers, OF, Francis Howell Central (MO), 2019
Rogers is a 6-foot 140-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.44 home to first and has a 79 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, short leg lift with in line stride, gap-to-gap approach, flashed feel for the barrel, hands control the bat.  In the outfield, 75 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, plays behind the ball with momentum through the catch, clean exchange working with momentum.  

DJ Schmidt, OF, Fort Zumwalt North (MO), 2018
Schmidt is a 6-foot 162-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 3.96 home to first and has an exit velocity of 76 mph. At the plate, open stance, in line stride, aggressive to the ball, hands control the ball, feel for the barrell, gap-to-gap line drives, repeats swing.  In the outfield, 73 mph positional velo, high three quarters arm slot, crow hop, quick to the ball, momentum though the catch quick catch and throw, clean transfer.

Hunter Tabor, OF, Francis Howell North (MO), 2019
Tabor is a 5-foot-11 180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran  a 4.70 home to first and has an exit velocity of 90 mph. At the plate, tall stance with thin base, toe touch to stride, quick hands, generates bat whip, stays balanced, consistent gap-to-gap line drives.  In the outfield, 88 mph positional veto, over the top release, momentum after the catch, fluid glove to hand transfer, quick feet working through the ball, on time with clean exchange.  

Danny Tharp, OF, Waterloo (IL), 2018
Tharp is a 6-foot-1 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Illinois’ 2018 class.  He ran a 4.41 home to first and has an 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, short in line stride, hands create a flat bat plane and quick speed, gap-to-gap line drives, body stays under control.  In the outfield, 80 mph positional veto, high three quarters arm slot, fluid actions with loose arm, plays through the ball, quick exchange, fluid footwork.

Tyler West, OF, Lindbergh (MO), 2018
West is a 6-foot-1 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.58 home to first and has an exit velocity of 91 mph. At the plate, starts lightly open, short stride, minimal hand movement in load, swing produce middle to pull side line drives during hitting evaluations, flashed pull side power.  In the outfield, over the top release, aggressive through the ball, crow hop, clean transfer, strong build, 78 mph positional velo.
 

Tommy Williams, OF, Lafayette (MO), 2018
Williams is a 6-foot-1 215-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.63 home to first and has an exit velocity of 93 mph. At the plate, feet start in line, short stride, accelerated hands, quick bat speed, controlled body, pull side power, ball jumps off bat, body stays balanced and controlled.  In the outfield, 86 mph positional velo, loose over the top arm action, throws down hill, momentum after the catch, fluid transfer, strong frame.
