A Look at South Mississippi Fall Showcase Players

Matt Miller
State Director

There were some very good prospects at the South Mississippi Fall Showcase at PRCC last weekend. We take a look at a few of them each day, starting with these guys...

2020 Logan Walters 3B Petal High School - displayed some plus pop with the days top exit velocity recorded at 97 mph. The athletic infielder lost his 2019 season to injury and could emerge as a steal for someone. Walters also showed some decent speed with a 6.85 60 time and a fastball reaching 84 mph.  We will be keeping an eye on him in the spring as he looks to find a place in the class rankings.

2021 Jonathan Burn SS Stone High School -  showed off some leather this past weekend. The 6’2” Burn can play all infield positions and as his body continues to mature will likely develop even more power at the plate. Shows advanced feel for infield play, working through the ball with a quick, clean exchange and strong arm that will continue to get better. Ranked #64 in the state, look for him to make some moves upward as he continues to develop.

The 2022 Mississippi state rankings will be coming out soon... these guys from the class stood out -
2022 Evan McCarthy OF Saltillo High School - made an impression this weekend with a very
balanced approach at the plate with an exit velocity that reached 87 mph. McCarthy showed a line-drive, gap-to-gap approach with a fluid, slightly upward swing path that could result in plus power numbers moving forward.

2022 McKinley Geieger OF Oak Grove High School -  is an up and coming hitter recruiters will want to follow. Excellent power potential and an athletic frame will draw them in. Very repeatable and balanced approach at the plate, while aggressively attacking pitches on the inner half.

2022 Cameron Fennell 1B Long Beach High School - turned some heads with his large, very balanced and controlled frame. Listed at 6’5” 250lbs, he is a definite plus power prospect. Fennell also showed mobility for a young player of his size. Continued maturity of his body could result in him becoming a very hot commodity.

The Watch List is coming together as we prepare for the baseball season next Spring. PBR Scouts will be in the seats at games across the state - and Juniors and Seniors won't want to miss the Uncommitted Showcase coming up on November 17 at Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland.
