Day 1 of the WWBA Underclass Tournament in Ft. Myers Florida has closed up, and luckily, Hurricane Matthew only impacted it briefly. The tournament is riddled with over a dozen of the top New Jersey travel teams and talent from both the 2018 and 2019 classes. Here is a look at some of NJ’s top prospects from Day 1:

+ Noah Dean, LHP, Pinelands Regional HS, NJ, 2019
Dean has a lany, athletic build - throws from a high-¾ slot. Sat 81-83 touching 84 mph with FB, Breaking ball had 1/7 shape at 70-71 mph. Throws across body, but gets excellent extension on release. Arm action is long and loose. Offspeed for strikes in any count.

Jacob Denner, LHP, Bergen Catholic HS, NJ, 2019
Denner has an athletic build at 6-feet 175-pounds. Sat 77-80 mph with FB, up to 81 and 82. Breaking ball has small 1/7 break at 67-69 mph. Smooth looking delivery, throws from a ¾ slot. Mechanics are sound, finishes square to home plate. Drop and drive type pitcher, uses lower half on back leg well to drive down the mound. Projectable arm with command of FB.

Jack Povey, RHP, Red Bank Regional HS, NJ, 2019
Povey has a lanky build at 6-feet 150-pounds. Free and loose arm action from a high-¾ slot, Povey sat 81-83 touching 84. Showcased his breaking ball well for strikes at 68-71 mph. True 12/6 breaker with tight spin, downer breaker with swing and miss potential. Flashed a straight change at 76 mph as well. Projectable frame, already up to 84 mph - more velocity in the tank as he continues to add muscle.

Will Jennings, OF, Governor Livingston HS, NJ, 2018
Jennings has a strong, athletic frame at 5-foot-11 170-pounds. LHH with line drive swing. Doubled to right center field gap. Uses a small leg kick, generates some torque in hips for power. Finish is balanced.

Elian Guzman, INF, Lodi HS, NJ, 2018
Guzman has a strong, athletic build at 5-foot-10175-pounds. Continued to prove why he is one of the top risers in the 2018 class. After an impressive showing at Selectfest Underclass (10/2/16-10/3/16) where he doubled and homered to deep left field - Guzman added two more hits, and two RBIs.

Matthew Stamford, LHP, Chatham HS, NJ, 2018
Stamford is tall with broad shoulders at 6-foot-4 190-pounds. Sat 80-82 mph touching 83 mph with a sharp 12/6 breaking ball at 68-70 mph. ¾ arm slot, swing and miss breaking ball. Very tight spin, fastball hand speed. One of the top NJ prospects of the day.

David Haberman, C, Morristown HS, NJ, 2018
Haberman has a big, physical build at 6-feet 220-pounds. Homered to right center field and barreled up nicely in another at bat. Strong, compact swing - gap to gap power.
