On Deck Preview: Preseason All-State - Long Island

As we kick off our Preseason All-State tour this weekend, we highlight some returning players that we are excited to see the results from an off season of training.

Matthew Canizares OF / RHP / Monsignor McClancy , NY / 2021Rankings StateRank: 18 / POS: 1
Lean frame build at 5-foot-10 160 pounds. Ran a personal best 7.04 60. Offensively - Works from an even setup with a slight leg kick; quiet and repeatable actions that produced a consistent flat path through the zone. Gap to gap line drive results in his batting practices. Defensively- Showed above average arm strength at NYS games at 91 MPH from the OF and was 90 MPH at the Future Games. Projects well at all 3 spots; effortless with his tracking and arm shows that it might be able to hold a few miles per hour. |

Tory Cooks OF / LHP / Millennium , NY / 2021Rankings StateRank: 116 / POS: 18
An athletic lean build at 6-foot-2,172 pounds. Ran a 7.40 in the 60 yard dash. Offensively- The left handed hitter stands in the box with feet shoulder width apart. Shows a short quick path to the baseball. Showed hard consistent line drives to the middle part of the field. Top exit velocity was 83 MPH. A lot more left in the tank as he continues to strengthen and develop. Defensively- In the outfield, Shows smooth fielding actions. Low effort. Gets himself in a good position behind the baseball. Uses his active footwork to gain momentum on throws to the plate. Top throwing velocity was 84 MPH. The 2021 graduate has tons of upside and is a must follow. |

Sean Evangelista OF / 2B / Holy Cross, NY / 2021Rankings StateRank: 43 / POS: 8
Has an athletic lean frame at 5-foot-8,150 pounds. Ran a 7.17 in the 60 yard dash. Defensively- The outfielder displayed active footwork. An aggressive approach to the baseball. Shows Fast twitch actions. Gets rid of the ball quickly. Throws from a mid ¾ arm slot. Does a good job following his throws. Shows an accurate arm. The top throwing velocity from the outfield was 81 MPH. |

Alvin Paulino C / OF / St. Raymond HS for Boys, NY / 2021Rankings StateRank: 83 / POS: 15
Solid 5-foot-10 200 pound right-handed hitter. Quiet setup with minimal pre-pitch actions. Short swing path with moderate extension; line drive results with the potential to add more power with some aggression in the box. Accurate arm with seamless exchange. Steady receiver and showed in-game awareness. Has a few untapped gears yet. |

Richard Kershow C / 3B / Northport, NY / 2022Switch hitter that starts slightly open and athletic from the left side. Strides in and slightly back landing square. Hands make minimal load back before a quick short move to the zone. Bat path is level and had a high complete finish. From the right side stance starts athletic and square, heel lifts to stride, and lands square. Minimal hand load, flat path through the zone, and a high complete finish. Swing appeared more fluid from the left side. Exit velocity was 83 mph. Behind the plate Kershow showed short quick feet getting in line. Finished over front side and through the throw. Quick centered transfer, short arm path, and throws from a high three-quarter arm slot at 71 mph. Pop times ranged from 2.16-2.28. Ran a 7.39 60. |
