Holiday Hitters - Oshawa: Quick Hits

Cam Black-Araujo
Assistant Director, Prep Baseball Canada

On Thursday, the PBR Ontario staff hosted the second part of its three-part Holiday Hitters Series, Holiday Hitters - Oshawa, at EZ Sports Facility in Oshawa, Ontario. This event featured roughly 35 players from the across the province in the 2024 - 2028 classes and allowed our staff an opportunity to get an in-depth look at how players are progressing this winter as players received several extended rounds of BP utilizing our TrackMan for the complete breakdown and metrics.

Earlier this week, we began our post-event coverage with the top statistical performers at the event with our Hitting Data Dive article and leaderboards. Today, we conclude our post-event coverage within this Quick Hits article as we provide scouting notes and video on eight standouts from the showcase.

HOLIDAY HITTERS - OSHAWA | QUICK HITS

Brady Martynuik 3B / RHP / Elmvale District, ON / 2027

‘27 3B Brady Martynuik produced one of the strongest rounds of BP at the event with the top exit velocity of 99.4mph and noticeable size for his age at 5-foot-10, 190-pounds. Right-handed hitter with big leg-kick that creates a pull-oriented swing and while there’s still development to come at the dish, the present strength and power was on display.

Dylan Zaretsky C / 1B / King City, ON / 2025

‘25 C/1B Dylan Zaretsky continues to solidify himself as one of the top catchers in the province, within his class. Big 6-foot-2, 210-pound athletic frame and looks to be more room for added strength. The left-handed hitter put together one of the performances at the event with consistent hard contact during all three rounds and the top average exit velocity at 87mph (96.0 peak). An uncommitted 2025 in Ontario that should be on the radar of college coaches.

Wesley Saunders OF / Saint-Charles-Garnier, ON / 2026

2026 OF Wesley Saunders was a Junior Future Gamer this past summer and his game has made noticeable strides since. He looks to have sprouted up, now 6-foot, 165-pounds with plenty more room to grow and add strength. It’s a balanced swing with a line-drive approach that works gap-to-gap right now and his peak distance of 342ft was tied for fourth-best at the event. It was a quality overall showing from the Toronto Mets product who found plenty of barrels with the second-best Sweet Spot % (65).

Colin Miller C / 1B / Brooklin , ON / 2027

2027 C/1B Colin Miller immediately catches your eye with sheer size for his age at 6-foot-1, 200-pounds. The left-handed hitter’s strength was on display throughout his rounds as he worked the middle of the cage, looking to elevate the ball while generating a peak exit velocity of 93.5mph. Produced a peak distance of 343ft and the power potential was evident as the swing and overall mechanics continue to develop. A 2027 prospect to keep tabs on in Ontario as the class continues to grow.

Alexander Tassopoulos SS / RHP / Bill Crothers, ON / 2025

‘25 SS/RHP Alex Tassopoulos continues to flash one of the more projectable swings in the 2025 class. Oozes projection with his 6-foot-4, 195-pounds and there’s power potential from the left-side as he continues to fill out. Upright setup with hands at shoulder height and looks to elevate the ball, generating a peak exit velocity of 96.3mph (second-best at event) and peak distance of 333ft. 2025 prospect to keep tabs on in Ontario and also has shown potential on the mound.

Shayne Gagne C / RHP / Tagwi, ON / 2026

‘26 C/RHP Shayne Gagne didn’t possess some of the physical traits as some of the other players highlighted here, but it was the short right-handed stroke and ability to work to all fields that caught our staff’s attention. Younger and undersized right now at 5-foot-7, 140-pounds with line-drive approach, working gap-to-gap throughout his rounds with a peak exit velocity of 82.6mph. The metrics don’t immediately pop out but those numbers should continue to climb as he begins to mature, fill out and add strength.

Cole Phillips 3B / OF / Henry Street , ON / 2025

2025 3B/OF Cole Phillips boasted some of the better strength we saw at the event and did all from the left-side of the dish. Present, noticeable size at 5-foot-10, 190-pounds and really works through the lower-half with strong wrists and hands through the zone. The swing works towards the middle of the field and the Ontario Yankees product generated one of the top exit velocities at 92.2mph. Good first look from Phillips and our staff is interested in seeing more from Phillips as we only had a chance to see the left-handed bat in Oshawa.

Parker Deans OF / Robert F. Hall, ON / 2025

‘25 OF Parker Deans has developed well and trended upwards since we got our first look at him last spring, adding 10mph to his exit velocity and 100ft to his distance. 5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitter with wide setup, small leg-kick and short stroke with gap-to-gap abilities. Showed the ability to hit line drives to all fields throughout his three rounds, culminating in a peak exit velocity of 92.2mph and distance of 342ft. Another prospect out of Team Ontario at the event who’s shown big strides in his game.
