Oregon Power Rankings: FINAL

PBR Staff

Let us just start by saying that it was an absolute pleasure to watch High School baseball again in the state of Oregon this spring. The excitement and joy that the game brought was palpable every time we were at a yard.

I think we can all agree that it would have been an incredible post-season environment this year. With a talented and deep group of seniors leading the way, there would have been memorable performances to close out some impressive careers. Not just at the 6A level, but across al levels in the state.

While players weren't able to finish their season with a championship. They still brought a 'playoff' mentality between the lines all year.

Here is how our final 6A power rankings stack up. Grant finishes in the #1 spot after a near perfect season and a 17-1 record, which was best in 6A. You could make a strong argument for 3-4 other teams to be at the top of the list, But as we see it, the Generals get the nod in 2021.

Grant, Clackamas, Lakeridge and Westview stand out as the clear "big 4" in the state. The Generals were a model of consistency all season, dropping only 1 contest to McMinnville on May 18th while facing a top '22 prospect in Ky Hoskinson (Cal State Bakersfield commit). Beyond that, they took care of business every chance they had with especially clutch wins over Clackamas, Barlow and Sherwood. Also worth mentioning that Grant did all of this without Portland commit, '21 LHP Gavin Kleier.

If we could snap our fingers and create a 7-game series between Grant and Clackamas, we would do it in a second. But we're not the Avengers and thus we have to go off of the games that were actually played. Clackamas had an incredible season and only dropped 2 games by a total of 2 runs. They finished with an impressive stretch of 4 straight wins to close that season that included victories over Westview and Lakeridge.

Lakeridge and Westview are arguably the two most talented rosters from top to bottom. If we were ranking teams based on prospects alone, those two would be at the top all season long. But we're looking at the total body of work and every win/loss matters. It's a shame these two squads weren't able to put it all on the line in a playoff scenario this year. We can promise you that no one would have wanted to match up with either of them.

Sprague and West Salem were both a steady presence in our power rankings all season long. Sprague had some key seniors towards the top of the rotation but also sported 7 sophomores on their varsity roster. So the future looks bright for the Olympians. While West Salem will lean on a lot of returning juniors to become the next wave of successful seniors to lead the program.

Sherwood and McMinnville will certainly be battled tested when 2022 rolls around. They both had tough non-league match-ups against Top 10 opponents and that experience should have their talented underclassmen take the next step sooner rather than later.

Barlow was led by the powerful bat of '21 C Wilson Weber for the final time this season. As the Oregon State commit will move on to the next level now. With seniors at key positions all over the diamond, they'll look to rebuild up the middle and on the mound in 2022. Mountain View should be just as strong next season as they'll return an overwhelming majority of their roster, which is rare for most of the teams in our Top 10.
