Oregon Power Rankings: Week 2

PBR Staff

Last week we unveiled our initial 6A Power Rankings. With the state tournament being eliminated this year, we wanted to expand on our coverage and put together weekly power rankings to reflect which TEAMS we feel are asserting themselves ahead of the competition.

We will continue to make adjustments based on what we see during our coverage of games as well as taking into account weekly results. Our week 2 list takes into account games played between 4/26 and 5/1.

After another flawless week, Lakeridge stays at the #1 spot. The Pacers outscored their opponents 28-5 across 3 games and really showed the depth in their line-up. Yes they are littered with D1 commits but there are impact bats all over their roster. On our look against West Linn this week, ‘21 SS Derek Seneker (Claremont McKenna commit) had a huge game with 3 H and 5 RBI.

Westview grabbed the #2 spot after a 2-1 week that saw them rack up 2 big victories over previously undefeated Jesuit. Although they dropped their Monday showdown against Sunset, we’ll have more on them later, they bounced back strong to finish the week. ‘21 RHP Riley Detrick was the star of the show for Westview on Wednesday as he needed only 77 pitches to fire a CG shutout.

The Wildcats played stout defense behind Detrick and managed to manufacture at least 1 run on the afternoon despite only recording 1 hit against a tough Jesuit pitching staff. Key moment occured in the top of the 4th as Jesuit started to threaten after singles by '21 INF Noah Lyman (Columbia) & '23 C Brock Leitgeb. After a BB loaded the bases, Westview turned a crucial, momentum swinging double play.

Then on Friday, the senior bats really showed up and helped carry the offense. Although they worked around the powerful bat of ‘21 Mason Guerra (Oregon State), who had 3 BB in 4 PA. Seniors Caden Rickman (Mt. Hood), Josiah Shipley (College of Idaho) and Braeden Munger (Lower Columbia) combined for 5 of their 6 total hits.

Grant continued to steamroll the competition, going 3-0 for the week and outscoring their opponents 32-9. A 4-1 victory over then 7th ranked Barlow was an impressive way to finish their 3 game stretch. ‘21 RHP/C Kaden Segel (Linn Benton) fired a complete game in that match-up with 9 punchies and only 3 hits allowed.

Clackamas climbs to 4th and they’ve racked up 8 straight victories after we saw them drop an early 2-1 contest on opening day. The Cavaliers dominated opponents this week, allowing only 2 total runs in 3 games while scoring 24. On the season, they are outscoring the opposition 80 to 12.

After a couple losses to Westview, Jesuit slides a bit down to the #5 spot. '21 Nelson Keljo (Oregon State) took the ‘loss’ after allowing 1 unearned run in 5 innings of work while surrendering only 1 hit. Expect the Crusaders to bounce back and show up this week as they face a Sunset team who comes in with a lot of momentum.

Speaking of Sunset, they’ll face off against Jesuit on Monday (5/3/21) and come in with a 3 game winning streak. At the top of the rotation, they’re led by ‘21 LHP Chance Wallace (Pacific University) who has fired back to back CG’s with 10+ strikeouts.

Three other newcomers enter the rankings in the back half with West Salem (7-1), Mountain View (7-1) and McMinnville (7-2) playing their way in after undefeated weeks. Sherwood had a tough loss on Friday but they racked up 2 wins prior to that and their only other blemish on the season is against #1 Lakeridge.

Key match-ups to keep an eye on this week:

Monday (5/3/21) - Sunset @ Jesuit

Tuesday (5/4/21) - Clackamas @ Central Catholic and Summit @ Mountain View

Wednesday (5/5/21) - Westview @ Mountainside and McMinnville @ Century
