Uncommitted Spotlight - 2022 Position Players

Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

In the last year or so, we've had the opportunity to get a much deeper, more in-depth look at the 2022 class across the state. Between various showcase events and game play, there's been a wide collection of talent on display. As we prepare for 2022, we want to continue to spotlight players in the senior class we've had the chance to see at events.

PBR events events provide players with the opportunity to build their profile with the most up-to-date information and video footage. All players in attendance receive an online profile with their verified statistics, player report, picture and video. Additionally, all subsequent stories written about a prospect will be linked to the player’s profile, ultimately creating a one-stop shop for recruiters.

Showcases help identify which prospects have asserted themselves towards the top of their class as well as who might be one of the next youngsters to emerge onto the scene. They also serve as potential identifiers for invite-only events such as our Future GamesJunior Future Games and West Coast Games

Here are notes on 5 standouts from the 2022 class to keep an eye on heading into their senior seasons...

2022 position players

Declan Corrigan C / 2B / Mountain View, OR / 2022

Twitchy athlete at 5-foot-11, 175 lbs. Exceptional straight line speed with a 6.50 in the 60. At the plate, uses an open, narrow set-up. Closes off lower half with a controlled leg lift prior to getting into forward stride. Hands stay just below rear shoulder throughout with a subtle scap load to create separation. Rotates easily with a quick, powerful swing. Levers stay short & connected, allowing barrel to work inside of the ball. Strong front leg & uphill path at contact help create lift. Noticeable strength at the point of contact. Defensively, looked comfortable with a one-knee down set-up while receiving. Hips sink below the ball while torso stays upright. Strong glove hand while receiving. Athleticism translates well to actions & he accelerates out of crouch easily. Showed a consistent exchange on this look with accuray through the bag on throws. Tight, compact arm path with over the top release. Has the tools to float around the diamond and flash some defensive versatility if needed

Alex Hendrickson 1B / C / Reynolds, OR / 2022

Lean, athletic frame at 6-foot, 165 pounds with room for projection. Toolsy athlete with the chance to do a lot of impressive things on the diamond at the next level. Consistent sub-7 runner on our looks. Offensively, starts wide in the box with a relaxed upper half and barrel resting in a flat position. Hovers into a low leg lift to gather on backside. Angles barrel into a better launch position during forward move while keeping flexion in upper half. Quick, easy bat speed that produces consistent loud contact. Line drive approach. Comfortable driving the ball to the middle of the field. Defensively, has the chance to excel at 1B with his athleticism and arm strength. Fluid mover around the bag with crisp actions and feel for his glove hand. Short, compact arm action with plenty of carry on throws across the diamond. Looks capable of transitioning to the OF with ease if needed. One of the most well-rounded prospects left in the 2022 class

Chase Highberger 3B / SS / Sherwood , OR / 2022

5-foot-10, 170 pounds with a proportional frame & short levers. Offensively, starts with an upright, relaxed set up with lower half just narrowly open. Hands begin below rear shoulder then push back to create stretch against forward stride. Lands balanced in a wide base with upper half closed off to pitcher. Hands stay tight to core as he begins rotation. Barrel has quickness into contact with a whippy, uphill finish. FInishes with late intent and gets backside through the baseball after contact. Generated consistent lift on this look. Defensively, confident defender with quick, active feet and an aggressive approach to the ball. Moves well on his feet with light, crisp strides and maintains body control throughout. Soft glove hand as he receives the ball. Quick hands on the exchange. No wasted movement into throwing motion. Short, quick release from varying arm slots. Plays with noticeable bounce.

Bowen Stinson C / OF / Mountainside, OR / 2022

Strong, stocky athlete with a powerful frame. 5-foot-9, 180 lbs and built like a powder keg. Runs well with consistent sub-7 times in the 60. Athletic set up in the box with bend in lower half and weight pre-shifted onto backside. High hand placement above rear shoulder as he gets into leg lift. Lands soft in a balanced hitting position. Moves well through core, accelerates barrel easily with impressive bat speed. Upper half stays relaxed and helps him get barrel out front at contact. Flat path thru the zone. Swings with intent while letting ball travel into his set-up. Exciting raw juice in the bat. Defensively, fits well at C position with his strength and build. Presents a quality target while receiving and keeps core/posture tall throughout. Comes straight up during transition out of crouch with clean direction towards 2b. Exchanges ball at chest height & gets into over the top release point with short, quick arm action. Backside comes through after release and helps keep true ball flight towards the bag. Has some arm strength left to tap into if he can gain a bit more ground with his lower half during throws. Athletic enough to mix in OF duties if needed.

Braden Woods OF / McMinnville, OR / 2022

5-foot-8, 150 pounds with a compact frame. Starts with a narrow, upright set up in the box and an open lower half. Quick, aggressive bat wiggle for rhythm prior to leg lift. Hands settle down and push down/back to load. Short, quick forward stride that allows him to keep leverage with his lower half. ‘Handsy’ type swing with the ability to manipulate the barrel. Hands stay inside of the ball & he sprays contact from line to line. Mature approach with consistent bat-to-ball skills. Defensively, L/L profile works well in the OF. Covers ground with easy strides and sound actions. Funnels ball in from just outside of right leg and shows an easy transition into his throwing motion. Uses a step-behind shuffle to get direction and momentum behind the ball. High glove side into a continuous arm path and high ¾ release. Ball carries well out of hand with accuracy
