Eastern PA College Prospect Showcase: Catcher Analysis

The Eastern PA College Prospect Showcase took place yesterday at Cooper Park on the campus of Millersville University. Today we begin a series of articles analyzing the prospects in attendance with a look at those players that participated as primary catchers.

Top Prospects

Ethan EichhornOwen FischlBrycen Rearick

Ethan Eichhorn, Mifflin County HS, Class of 2020, C/RHP
6-foot, 190-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a leg-hang stride. Displayed balance throughout with a feel for the barrel while creating some backspin. Registered a bat exit velocity of 83 mph and ran a 7.43 60-yard dash. Athletic defender showcased a soft glove hand and quick feet in transition. Registered pop times of 2.08-2.15 on throws of 76 mph from the crouch with above average carry to the bag. The righty also sat 81-83 off the mound out of an over-the-top arm slot while repeating his delivery consistently. Showcased some tilt to his curveball with 11/5 rotation at 67-69 and flashed good sell on his changeup at 69-73.

Owen Fischl, Whitehall HS, Class of 2021, C
5-foot-10, 210-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a heel-raise stride. Generates his barrel whip largely from his lower half and showed the ability to use all fields. Registered an 85 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.75 60-yard dash. Showcased pop times of 2.13-2.21 on throws of 72 mph from the crouch. Solid all-around skill set with a projectable frame that has room to distribute additional strength moving forward.

Brycen Rearick, Forest Hills HS, Class of 2020, C
5-foot-8, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a controlled lift-and-replace stride. Displayed solid balance with a feel for the barrel. Registered a bat exit velocity of 80 mph and ran a 7.78 60-yard dash. Showcased 70 mph arm strength from the crouch with pop times of 2.13-2.21. Displayed a very quick transition and pop times will continue to improve with additional work to build arm strength.

Evan Beach, Dallastown Area HS, Class of 2021, C
6-foot-2, 195-pound right-handed hitter turned in the top bat exit velocity of the event at 90 mph. Starts from an open stance and utilizes a leg-hang stride to square. Showed rhythm and balance throughout while consistently finding the barrel. Showcased pop times of 2.32-2.40 on throws of 71 mph from the crouch defensively. Likely a first baseman at the next level due to his size.

Thomas Delahoy, St. Joseph's Catholic HS, Class of 2022, C
5-foot-11, 195-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed a direct swing path with a line drive approach with an ability to use all fields. Registered a bat exit velocity of 77 mph. Showcased developing skills behind the dish defensively. Recorded pop times of 2.40-2.48 on throws of 64 mph from the crouch.

Isaiah Dull, Spring Grove Area HS, Class of 2022, C/RHP
5-foot-10, 175-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a toe-tap stride. Showed some length in swing with a flat barrel path. Registered a bat exit velocity of 76 mph and ran a 7.44 60-yard dash. Displayed solid pop times of 2.17-2.25 on throws of 75 mph from the crouch defensively. The righty sat 74-76 from a high 3/4 arm slot on the mound. Also showcased a slider at 62-64 and a knuckle curve at 64-65 with 11/5 rotation. Solid all-around skill set will benefit from strength gains and physical maturity.

Aaron Gale, Penn Manor HS, Class of 2020, C
6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to start. Showcased a feel for the barrel with some gap power and the ability to create some backspin. Registered a bat exit velocity of 87 mph and ran a 6.81 60-yard dash. Displayed above average 76 mph arm strength behind the dish with pop times of 2.30-2.37. A move to the outfield at the next level is a possibility.

Jeffery Haer, Meyersdale Area HS, Class of 2020, C
5-foot-7, 245-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to begin. Showcased a short swing path and a feel for the barrel with an efficient use of his lower half. The ball jumped off his barrel during a solid round of batting practice. Registered a bat exit velocity of 84 mph and showed 64 mph arm strength behind the dish with pop times of 2.40-2.48.
