Thomas Francisco hit a Grand Slam in the second inning and a three run shot in the fifth en route to seven RBI as the Abingdon Falcons defeated the Gate City Blue Devils 13-3 in six innings.

Gate City would strike first in the game, scoring a run on an RBI double off the bat of Landon Turner, who drove in Jon Compton who walked previously to take a 1-0 lead. Abingdon would respond with two runs of their own to take a 2-1 lead.

Gate City would again respond by evening the game up at 2 a piece in the top half of the second, but that was when the Falcons broke the game open.

Three walks loaded the bases with one-out in the bottom half of the inning and Francisco stepping up to the plate. After a first pitch ball, Francisco would unload on the next pitch , sending a no-doubt bomb over the right center fence into the trees giving the Falcons the 6-2 lead. Kevin Christy (East Tennessee State) would then double immediately after and eventually score making it a 7-2 ball game after two.

  • Francisco's second-inning Grand Slam broke the game open in AHS 13-3 victory Tuesday

Abingdon would add a run in the fourth inning then strike for three more in the fifth when Francisco hit his second homer of the game, this time a three run shot to right center, extending the Falcon lead to 11-3 at this point. Abingdon would get two runs in the sixth inning to end the game due to the VHSL 10-run lead after five inning rule.

Francisco was 2-for-2 with seven RBI and two HR on the day. TJ Taylor was 2-for-3 with three RBI for the Falcons and Colin Matney had two hits as well.

Turner and Andrew Williams led Gate City with a hit and RBI each.
