Thursday night saw Winchester rivalry showdown between the top two teams in the Class 4 half of the Northwestern District, James Wood and Millbrook. Both teams went with senior righties to start the game, Wood starting Nick Bell and Millbrook starting Carl Keenan (Shenandoah)

The pitchers were in control in early as the game was scoreless through 4 innings, James Wood scratched a few hits but never really put together a significant offensive threat against Keenan early. Bell was in control and carried a perfect game through three and a no-hitter through the fourth inning.

James Wood was first on the board, scoring a run in the top of the fifth when the leadoff man reached and then senior Eli Miller lined a single to right on a hit-and-run, putting runners on the corners with no outs. Duece Strosnider drove in the game's first run with a SAC fly, but Keenan was able to stop the damage there.

In the sixth, James Wood extended their lead, picking up three more runs with senior Jared Neal delivering a big hit in the rally and Colin McGuire (Lynchburg) driving him in with a SAC fly. Wood held a 4-0 lead headed to the seventh. Millbrook was able to load the bases, get on the board and get the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh, but McGuire came in to close out the game with a pair of strikeouts for a James Wood 4-1 win.
