Region 6A Quarterfinals

No. 17 Cosby 6, No. 21 Franklin County 2
Caleb Grizzard (Old Dominion) went the first 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits with 6 strikeouts. Freshman Seth Truesdale was 1-2 with 2 RBIs for the Titans. Preston Crowl was 2-3 at the plate and threw a complete game for Franklin County in the loss.

Region 6C First Round

Justice 7, TC Williams 4
Nick Guerra (Richard Bland CC) was 2-3 with a 2B and a BB, Dean Kampschror (Virginia) was 1-2 with a 2B, a BB, and 2 RBIs, and Michael Novak was 2-4 with 3 RBIs for the Wolves in the win. Danny McInnis was 2-4 for TC. 

Region 5A Quarterfinals

First Colonial 2, Granby 0
Junior Walker Fuller tossed 6.1 scoreless, 4-hit innings in the win, striking out 4. Drew Proctor was 2-2 and Ryan Peterson (VMI) and Jerry Barnes each had a hit and an RBI for the Patriots. Junior Jordan Hill threw 4 innings of 1-hit relief for the Comets and Jaiden Griffith was 1-1 with 2 BBs.

 

Southwest District Championship

No. 8 Lebanon 8, Virginia 0

Mountain 7 District Championship

Gate City 2, Central (Wise) 0, Suspended in the 4th inning

Region 6A Quarterfinals

Ocean Lakes 4, Western Branch 3
The Dolphins jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third and hung on to win. Justin Banaham was 1-3 with 2 RBI and Carson DeMartini (Virginia Tech) was 0-1 with 2 BB. Peter Phillips threw 2.1 innings of scoreless 1-hit relief for Ocean Lakes. Jackson Tone was 3-4 with a 2B for the Bruins and Roberto Velasquez (Bryant & Stratton) threw 3 innings of hitless relief with 5 strikeouts.

 

Region 6C First Round

West Springfield 2, Hayfield 1
The 2018 State Champs advanced with the go-ahead run scoring in the top of the seventh on a Joseph Harris sacrifice fly, Harris finished the game 1-2 with a 2B, a HBP, and an RBI. Jeremy Stine was also 1-2 with an RBI. Jake Roberti (Louisburg CC) went the distance, allowing just 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 11. Hayfield sophomore Nick Griffin was good as well, also going the distance, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits while striking out 2. Michael Riley was 1-2 with a 3B and a BB and Matthew Stackpole was 1-3 with an RBI for the Hawks.

South County 4, Falls Church 0
Joseph Miller and Dan Gallagher combined on a 4-hit shutout. Lucas Sorenson (Denison) was 1-2 with 2 RBIs for the Stallions. Zach Sedmak was 1-2 with a 2B for the Jaguars and Michael Keefe went 3 innings in relief, allowing 1 run on 4 hits.

WT Woodson 6, Mount Vernon 1
Lars Greenlee threw 6 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits. Vincent Altieri was 3-3 with an RBI and Andrew Perks was 2-3 with a BB and an RBI. Zyhir Hope struck out 6 in 3.1 innings of relief work for Mount Vernon while also going 1-2 with an RBI at the plate.

Robinson 18, Edison 4
Jack Rodriguez, Price Holbrook, and Andrew Becker all had 3-hit games for the Rams. Holbrook drove in 4 and Rodriguez had 3 RBIs. Logan Darrow allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 4 innings of work with 5 strikeouts to pick up the win. Carter Reid was 1-3 with 2 RBIs for Edison.

Annandale 6, Fairfax 0
Senior Daniel Salisbury (Marymount) threw a complete game 4-hit shutout, striking out 4 while also going 2-3 at the plate with a 2B. Fellow senior Spencer Robson (Marymount) was 2-3 with a home run. Jac Dwyer threw 1.2 innings of hitless relief for Fairfax.

 

Region 6D First Round

Westfield 3, McLean 1
Senior lefty Tyler Muscar (James Madison) shut down McLean, going 6.2 innings, 1 R, 7 H, with 6 K. Nick Lottchea (William & Mary) was 2-4 with an RBI and Jason Cheifetz (James Madison) and Joe George each had a hit and an RBI for Westfield. For McLean, Griffin Stieg (Virginia Tech) was 2-4 with a 2B and Aidan Carey was strong in relief, going 4.1 IP, 1 R, 3 H, and 2 K.

No. 15 Herndon 5, Oakton 1
Kyle Henson went the distance, allowing 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 4. Connor Brennan was 2-3 for the Hornets and six other players had a hit. For Oakton, Brett Harelle was 2-3 with a 3B and an RBI.

Langley 25, Marshall 3
This was the continuation of a game that started Thursday and was suspended in the top of the 2nd inning with Langley up, 5-3. Bobby Fleming finished the game single short of the cycle, going 3-5 with 6 RBIs. Michael Hoeymans was 3-6 with a 2B and 3 RBIs, and Will Long, Aiden Hohenthaner, and Matthew Kim all had multi-hit games for the Saxons. 

Centreville 2, South Lakes 1
This game was suspended in the 2nd inning on Thursday and lasted into the eleventh inning on Saturday. Campbell Charneco went 6 innings in relief, allowing 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 6 while also going 2-5 at the plate. Onkar Dillon was 3-4 at the plate and Alex Wu threw 5 innings of 1-hit scoreless ball for the Wildcats. Ryan Ertlschweiger (James Madison) was strong for the Seahawks, going 8.1 innings, 1 run on 6 hits in a no decision.


Region 5D Championship

Woodgrove 2, Riverside 1
The Wolverines became the first team to claim a Region Championship in 2021, scoring both of their runs in the bottom of the sixth on a Christian Hile (Marshall) two-run home run. Hile also threw 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 1 hit while striking out 5. Joey Colucci was the winning pitcher with two innings of scoreless relief. Sophomore Kyle Johnson was stellar on the mound for Riverside, going all 6 innings, allowing just 2 runs and 3 hits while striking out 5. Stone Lasseigne was 2-3 for the Rams, their only hits on the day.

 

 

Region 4D Quarterfinals

Halifax County 11, Blacksburg 1
Senior Jaxon Lloyd (VMI) struck out 11 in five innings of 2-hit ball. Joey Duffer (Concord) was 3-3 with 3 RBIs and Nathan Comer was 2-3 with 2 2Bs and 2 RBIs. Ben Miller was 1-2 with a 2B and an RBI for Blacksburg.

Jefferson Forest 5, Salem (Salem) 4
Jefferson Forest pulled ahead in the bottom of sixth on a 2-run double from Evan Mace, who finished the game 2-3 with a 2 2Bs and 2 RBIs. Peyton Smith was 3-3 and Will Kese was 2-4 for the Cavaliers. Hunter King drew 4 walks for Salem.

No. 18 Amherst County 1, GW Danville 0

 


Region 3D First Round

Cave Spring 6, Hidden Valley 4
The Knights scored four in the bottom of the sixth to rally to the win. Trey Ludy picked up the win with 2.1 innings of relief, allowing 1 run on 1 hit with 5 strikeouts. Bayes Bryant was 2-3 with 2 RBIs and Holden Wilkerson and Charlie Urgo each had 2 hits and an RBI. Elliot Cook was 2-2 with a home run and 2 BB in the loss.

Northside 11, Staunton River 4
Corey Sigmon struck out 8 while allowing just 4 hits in 6 innings in the win while also going 1-3 with a BB. Cole McLain was 2-4 with an RBI and Luke Roberts had 3 RBIs for Northside. Grey Clary was 2-3 with a BB and 3 RBIs while Aidan Brown was 2-3 with a 2 2Bs and a BB for Staunton River.

Dulles District Championship
