Cosby

Blake LaMattina SS / RHP / Cosby, VA / 2027

LaMattina has been put in a very important spot as a freshman in the clean up spot for the Cosby Titans this spring as well as starting at the hot corner. He has come up in big situations and showed maturity for a freshman. In the top of the first on Thursday with a runner in scoring positon, LaMattina hit a single through the left side to put the Titans up early. As the season continues LaMattina will continue to be put in those situations and I expect him to continue to take the challenge and thrive.

Jack Weight RHP / 1B / Cosby, VA / 2024

Weight was called in out of the pen in a tough spot in the third with runners on base and would minimize the damge for the Titans picking up three strikeouts in that inning. Weight attacked hitters with his fastball early in counts in the 85-88 range working up to 89. He then would put away hitters with his sweeping slider. The slider is a good pitch that he can lean on this spring to get big time outs for Cosby.

Michael Williams RHP / SS / Cosby, VA / 2025

Williams was dominate coming out the pen for two innings to close out the game for the Cosby Titans. Williams had a leadoff walk then quickly settled in after that. He used the fastball to set up hitters for his breaking ball that was unhittable. The breaking ball was the go to pitch that has late depth that hitters couldn't seem to figure out for the rest of the night. Williams picked up five strikeouts to seal the win for Cosby.

James River

Callum Early SS / 2B / James River (Midlothian), VA / 2024

Early was impressive for the Rapids. He repeatedly made plays at shortstop displaying range and his smooth glove. At the plate he showed an aggressive approach swinging at pitches early in the count while still showing his advanced feel for the strike zone. He picked up a single in crunch time for the Rapids to go along with a couple walks. It was good to see Callum being aggressive and trying to make things happen at the top of the lineup for the James River offense.

Benedictine

Elijah Coston OF / LHP / Benedictine, VA / 2024

Coston was called upon in the seventh inning to get the save for the Cadets in a 1-0 game. He worked around some baserunners reaching on walks. He worked the corners with the fastball that got up to 88 and sat 84-87. He kept hitters honest with a firm slider at 77-79. Coston seems to have taken on the closer roll for the Cadets to shutdown games.

Jake Wise RHP / Benedictine College Preparatory, VA / 2025

The 2023 Prep Baseball Future Games alum picked right back up where he left off last spring. Wise threw six shutout innings and dominated. He worked quick innings inducing weak contact with the fastball running in on hitters. His changeup is a plus pitch that created weak contact and swing and miss during the outing. It was his go to pitch to right handed hitters and left handed hitters. It is a plus offering that you can expect him to use to his advantage each time out. You know what to expect from Wise each time out and that is a pitcher that competes, throws strikes, and looks to get you a good start that works late into games.

Walsingham Academy

Sean Sousa 1B / OF / Walsingham Academy, VA / 2024

Sousa was the standout offensively for Walsingham in low offensive showing for both sides in a 1-0 game. Sousa stands out immediality from a physicality standpoint. It's an imposing frame for any opposing pitcher. Sousa picked up a hit in his first at bat as well as catching a loud barrel later in the game. He shows an approach at the plate looking to attack pitches in the zone working from gap to gap. With the obvious strength there is power to all fields especially to the pull side.

Halifax County

Logan Clark OF / RHP / Halifax County, VA / 2026

Clark was really aggressive at the plate for the Comets. He cashed in on a couple different RBI opportunities with both resulting in singles bringing in a couple runs. Clark had a nice showing defensively in center making a spectacular diving play to stop a scoring threat. Clark will be a key piece offensively for the Comets this spring.

Mason Hatcher RHP / SS / Halifax County, VA / 2024

Hatcher got the start for Halifax County and he did not dissapoint. Through three innings he cruised picking up seven strikeouts quickly. He attacked hitters early and often mixing pitches and keeping hitters off balance. Hatcher worked into the sixth finishing the night with nine strikeouts. He will be heavily leaned on for the Comets to go on a state title run.
