MPH 101:

Brian Archer C / 1B / Steward , VA / 2025

Archer continues to progress in each look this fall. Archer had a consistent round of batting practice that translated over into game with a double into deep right centerfield.  Archer has added strength to frame that continues to produce power in the bat.  Approach at the plate has improved with less swing and miss with ability to use the whole field with hard contact. Defensively, he has shown toughness behind the plate with leadership qualities shown that has the capabilities of handling a staff.

Christian Newsome C / King George, VA / 2026

Newsome had a very strong showing showcasing two way ability. First, he stood out early with consistent rounds of batting practice using the big part of the field with strength in the wiry frame. Newsome picked up two hits in game showing feel for the barrel and zone awareness. He has some position versatility as a utility playing third base and behind the dish having the arm strength to play both. Newsome later hopped on the mound and showcased his pitching ability. Newsome worked primarily fastballs in the zone operating in the 81-84 range, touching 86 early also while flashing developing feel for slider. A lot to like with Newsome, a player to keep an eye on in the spring.

Aydan Smith RHP / SS / Monacan, VA / 2025

Smith was strong in his outing on the mound on Saturday. Was efficient in the zone with a three pitch arsenal, creating weak contact working all quadrants of the zone. The fastball worked in the 81-83 range, setting up hitters for the offspeed.  Slider operated at 73-74 with sweeping action working away from right handed hitters. Changeup is advanced with fading and tumbling action used on left handed hitters creating weak groundballs and some swing and miss. Smith has room to add strength and has a chance to tick up in velo. Pitchability and is a competitive strike thrower with room to add.

Eli Truslow LHP / King George, VA / 2026

Truslow was very impressive in his outing on the mound. Attacked hitters early in the count, changing tempo and filling up the zone. Showed feel for his curveball early with the ability to land it for strikes in any count. The fastball was up to 78 with arm side run. Truslow creates uncomfortable at bats for left handed hitters. There is plenty of projection left for the 6-foot-3, 175-pound southpaw.

Zachary Zelazny SS / 3B / Patrick Henry (Ashland), VA / 2025

The 2023 Future Games alum was nothing short of impressive on Saturday. Zelazny has a combination of athleticism and strength that is played on both sides of the ball. Zelazny picked up two hits in the game including a towering homerun into left centerfield. Zelazny shows competitive edge in the box and aggressiveness on the basepaths. Zelazny made plays at shortstop with fluid footwork and control with enough arm to stay on the left side. While there is some present strength in the frame, there is still more room to add. One of the top uncomitted '25 still on the board in the VA/DC area.
