Fifth-Rounder Jacob Nix Enrolls At IMG Academy

The 135th-overall pick in the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft, Jacob Nix, has enrolled in IMG Academy’s post-graduate program for the spring 2015 semester. Nix was selected by the Houston Astros in June after signing a National Letter of Intent to UCLA for the Class of 2014.

Nix was a four-year letter winner at Los Alamitos HS in his hometown of Los Alamitos, Calif. Nix pitched for the U.S. 18U National Team at the 18U World Cup in Taiwan, leading the team to its second straight World Cup title. Nix, also pitched for the Milwaukee Brewers squad at the 2013 Area Code Games in Long Beach, Calif., and was a 2013 Third Team Perfect Game Underclass All-American. In 2014, he earned Perfect Game Second Team All-American honors and was named to the California All-Region First Team. Additionally, Nix was named California Sunset League Pitcher of the Year in 2012 as a sophomore. That year, he led his Los Alamitos to the Sunset League title, going 8-0 with a 1.97 ERA and 41 strikeouts on the year, including a no-hitter.

“We are looking forward to Jacob joining us at IMG Academy, where we feel he will be in the ideal environment to continue his development on and off the field,” said IMG Academy’s Director of Baseball, Dan Simonds.
