Team Illinois lost a thriller to Team Pennsylvania on Friday afternoon 11-9. After trailing 11-2 at one point in the game, Team Illinois came storming back, scoring seven runs in the final two frames with an opportunity to tie the game in the bottom of the 5th before time expired. Despite the loss, there were many standout performers from the game.

The Team Illinois offense was led by OF Mason Bruesch (Geneva, 2027) who had a single and two walks on the afternoon, with a run scored. C/OF Myles Broome (Brother Rice, 2027) went 1-for-2 with an RBI single, a walk, and two runs scored. Another offensive standout performer was C/OF Derrick Pomatto (Joliet Catholic, 2027), continuing to get on-base twice Friday with two walks, and two runs scored. Pomatto displayed defensive versatility, starting the game at catcher before moving to left field later in the game. INF/OF Nathan Klucker (Triad, 2027) was also 1-for-1 with two walks and a run scored. Klucker started the game at 1st base, then hopped on the mound in relief for an inning and a third.

On the mound, INF/RHP Carson Trivellini (Crystal Lake South, 2027) impressed out of the bullpen, going three innings allowing no runs on one hit, one walk, and punching out two.

Team Illinois started their last game of pool play last night and allowed one runner on base before the game went into an hour and a half rain delay. The game resumed with Team Illinois ultimately falling, 5-3. Pitching was the highlight of the game with both RHP/OF Cullen Schwigen (Rockridge, 2027) and MIF/RHP Jacsen Tucker (Oswego East, 2027) toeing the rubber.

Schwigen started on the mound for Team Illinois and pounded the zone for strikes with his low-80s fastball, including multiple 85 mph fastballs in the third inning. Tucker came into the game in relief and attacked the zone with both his fastball and curveball for strikes.

INF/RHP Gavin Stanislowski (Brother Rice, 2027) drove in a run on a single, adding to his impressive hit total on the week. RHP/UTL Kash VanHouten (Canton, 2027) was another member of Team Illinois that continued his hot streak; he sent a ball to the right-center gap for a double. RHP/OF Wade Ozment (Crystal Lake Central, 2027), OF Anthony Cartolano (Brother Rice, 2027), and C Hunter Hike (Hononegah, 2027) each scored in the game with Ozment and Hike both recording singles.

Team Illinois (1) will take on Team Ohio at 2:45 pm on Field 14.
