This past Saturday Prep Baseball Report-New York along with Pro Prospects Training Center teamed up to work out Junior College Sophomores in unison with the Downstate Unsigned Senior showcase. There were 70+ recruitable athletes on the field at once.

Let's take a look at how the JUCO players measured up:

2017 Downstate JUCO Sophomore Showcase / Position Players

2017 Downstate JUCO Sophomore Showcase / Pitchers

Highlights

INF/RHP Jose De La Cruz, Westchester CC, NY
One of the top standouts as he showed next level ability both as a position player and RHP. Running a 6.93 60; the RHH showed bat speed and a line drive approach (93 MPH exit velocity). Impressive range and above average arm at 91 MPH across the diamond. On the bump De La Cruz sat 88-90 featuring a late breaking CB/SL and a power change at 79-80 MPH.

SS Wataru Kazama, Sussex CC, NJ
Sleek defender with an above average release and accuracy. 5-foot-7 145 pounds of fast twitch muscle; can handle either 2B or SS as arm also works across the diamond (82 MPH). Left-handed bat that can spray it around. Ran a 6.81 60.

C Tyler Goff, Sussex CC, NJ
Full bodied catcher at 5-foot-10 210 pounds. Pop time ranged between 1.97-2.07 with his arm strength up to 75 MPH with carry. Quiet approach from the left side, stayed through the middle of the field with a line drive approach.

OF Cain Ruiz, Sullivan CC, NY
Scrappy 5-foot-7 160 pound outfielder who attended both the upstate and downstate event. Accurate arm with some carry and had a tremendous batting practice showing some punch to both gaps, more so his pull side. Last week showed more of a contact approach, this week he let if fly. Ran a 7.17 60/85 Exit Velo/78 MPH from the OF.  Hard nosed player.

INF/OF Manny Nova, Sullivan CC, NY
Like Ruiz, Nova showed more pop in his bat this week and matched his 6.79 60. More of a secondbaseman he showed the athleticism from the outfield and at SS once again with arm strength that will work all-around (83 from OF/85 on the INF). High-end athletic player packed into a 5-foot-10 194 pound frame.

SS/RHP Manny Rojas, Sullivan CC, NY
Similar to his teammates that attended again, Rojas showed an improved effort with a balanced and repeatable line drive approach through the middle of the field with an strong left side arm and extended range. 7.03 60/86 MPH exit/83 MPH from the INF. Also showed better feel on the mound at 83-85 MPH with a sharper breaking ball at 70-71 MPH.
