The initial Oklahoma 2021 class rankings was put together just weeks before the spring season started before any of the players had competed at the high school level. The spring presented a quality evaluation period for the young class as PBR Oklahoma was constantly out at games, and several players took steps forward, and emerged as some of the top prospects in the class. Not easy to replicate the immense talent that the 2020 class has shown, there were still strong performances from the 2021 class as they battled for playing time with upperclassmen. Three newcomers to the list who had great season for their varsity program including 1B/LHP Payton Tolle (Bethany HS), RHP Blake Priest (Enid HS) and RHP/C Parker Whittle (Regent Prep). The biggest jump in the Sooner State came from the new, top-ranked prospect in long-limbed right-hander Gray Thomas.

Top 3

Making a huge jump recently at the OK Preseason All-Season Showcase, RHP/3B Gray Thomas (Casady HS) moves up seven spots to now lead the class. A 6-foot-3, 175-pound frame with longs limbs. The right-handed two-way player really stands out on the mound. His fastball sits 84-86 mph with late and heavy sink in the strike zone from a ¾ slot. The slider has 10/4 shape with short and late depth at 74-76 mph. The changeup is still developing with late fade, 79-81 mph. Thomas’ long limbs and loose arm will likely allow him to make another jump down the road.

Filling the second spot in the rankings is physically advanced C Ian Daugherty (Kingfisher HS). A 6-foot-1, 180-pound frame with some strength throughout, Daugherty still looks young in the face and will likely continue to put on size and strength. Offensively, the right-handed hitter demonstrates the ability to consistently find barrels and produce pop with a simple swing. Using a middle to pull approach, the young right-handed hitter has a knack for finding barrel and the ball carries more than his 84 mph exit velo would suggest. Defensively, it’s his clean action and ability to consistently put the ball on the bag with pop times between 1.96-2.08 that sets him apart.

Occupying the third slot is 2B/SS Cayden Brumbaugh (Edmond Santa Fe HS). The 5-foot-9, 150-pound middle infielder is still developing physically, but is already showing some some polished skills. Offensively, the right-handed hitter shows advanced rhythm and timing in his swing with good hand eye coordination as he barrels almost every ball in BP with an exit velo now up to 88 off the tee. In the middle infield, Brumbaugh exhibits solid footwork, taking crisp angles to the ball, along with soft hands and an accurate arm at 78 mph across the diamond. Brumbaugh found his way to the top of the order for his 6A high school team with his 6.94 speed and barrel control.
