PB OK 2024 Class Rankings: Spring Edition

Scott Hood
Oklahoma State Director

As the senior class heads into their final high school season, we take an updated look at the 2024 rankings.  At the top, this class is full of prospects that are giving the professional scouts plenty of reasons to hunker down in the Sooner State with multiple guys having the potential to hear their name called in this summer's MLB Draft.  What is really impressive is the depth of premium arms up and down the list with multiple guys making big jumps since their junior campaigns.  This list is put together by putting the whole picture together on a prospect with insights gained from our scouting coverage in game, data and video from our events, and a collaboration of talking with high school coaches, college coaches, and professional scouts.  In this release we do a breakdown on the committment numbers, a closer look at the Top 10, and go into a few ranking's risers and newcomers to the list.

THE TOP 10

Our Top 10 sees a bit of a shakeup ahead of their senior campaigns with some arms starting to make some big jumps in the recent weeks.  Shull remains the top prospect in the class and is considered one of the top high school prep draft prospects thanks to a high hit tool and power potential switch hitting bat.  Mayfield sees a jump from number 4 to number 2 on the list after putting together one of the better performances at the Super 60 and carrying that over to his first few outings this spring where the left-hander has been up to 96 mph.  Owen Hall sees a slight jump to number 3 on the list after carrying over a strong summer campaign and making a few jumps that have had him up to 98 mph.  Bender sees his stock rise to number 6 on the list after we caught him working 91-93 with a wipeout slider on opening day.  Finally, entering the Top 10 again is the 2-way prospect Luke Williams out of Owasso.  Williams has been seeing jumps in velocity in the mound working up to 92 mph recently as well as getting off to a terrific start at the plate.  Williams should be considered one of the top prospects in the 2024 class across the country that still is uncommitted.

RANKINGS RISERS AND NEWCOMERS

MarlonMoore, MIF, Washington HS, Cowley County Commit

Moore has gotten off to a terrific start fo the Warriors this spring adding some more power to his already strong defensive game.  The ball is jumping off the barrel right now with serious hand strength coming from his 6-foot and 175 pound frame.  Already considered one of the top defenders in the area, Moore's jump with the bat sees his stock rise from number 29 in our last update, up to number 24.

Bennett Percival, RHP, Enid HS, NOC Enid commit

Percival sees the largest jump in the rankings in this update moving up from 107 to number 26 on the list.  The physical right-hander impressed when we recently saw him, using a clean arm action and delivery to work the fastball in the 89-91 range and showing feel for a 74-76 mph curveball.  He also added a potential plus change up in the low 80's to give him a future starter's profile.  What was most impressive about him in our looks was his ability to pound the strike zone with all three offerings and should be an intriguing follow in the coming weeks.

Wyatt Rutledge, RHP/MIF, Sand Springs HS, NOC Enid commit

Rutledge gained some valuable experience as a starter for the Sandites last season and has now expanded his role to working on the mound.  While the position player side still shows high upside, it was his work on the mound that saw him rise from 94 in our previous update up to 62 in this release.  Rutledge has a loose and whippy arm action that allowed him to work the fastball up to 90 mph and showed strong action on an upper 70's to low 80's slider with swing and miss shape.  The work on the mound is still not a finished product, but the hand speed and feel for the breaking ball makes him one of the top reliever profiles in the state.

CHANCE PAIR, CATCHER, TAHLEQUAH HS, FRONTIER CC commit

Pair enters the rankings for the first time in his senior year at number 66 on the list after a strong showing at the Oklahoma Preseason All-State last month.  The switch hitting catcher creates strong contact from both sides of the plate giving him a potential power bat profile.  Defensively, Pair has a feel for framing pitches and strong wrists combined with a consistent release from behind the plate with throws showing strong carry and accuracy to the bag.  The bat has a chance to carry him at the next level and shows enough tools behind the plate to give him an offensive backstop future.

Tylon Holman, OF, Carl Albert HS, Uncommitted

We got a strong look at the quick twitch outfielder from Carl Albert at the OKC Preseason ID where he showed a big arm from the outfield working balls up to 88 mph and showing a simple swing from the right side with balls jumping off the barrel.  He also added in one of the top 30 times to his ledger coming in at 3.98 seconds to enter our rankings for the first time at number 85.  Holman is still fairly young for the class and has plenty of room to keep adding strength in the future making him one of the more projectable outfielders remaining uncommitted in the class.
