LATHROP, CA. - The Northern CA Open Scout Day had nearly 40 players take part in the showcase where players were put through a workout that included the 60-yard sprint, round of batting practice, defensive workouts at respective positions, and concluded with bullpen sessions where the pitchers' stats were compiled. All position reports: Pitchers MIF Outfielders 3B/1B Catcher

MIDDLE INFIELDERS

Manuel Dorantes, Salinas (CA), 2025
Positional Profile: C/3B
Body: 6-0, 210-pounds. Large shoulders with current strength there, but plenty of time to tighten the frame. Moves well for size.
Hit: RHH. Squatted stance, high hands/high back elbow. Simple forward move with lots of hand rhythm. Great direction and ability to drive backside through contact. Deep carry and easy carry deep into gaps. Power will be a major asset.  Hands stay above the baseball well with barrel following and creating easy loft; explosive off the bat.
Power: 95 max exit velocity
Arm: RH. C - 72 mph. 3B - 74 mph. Fluid and compact. Easy actions. Able to get rid of it when he needs to. Balls generally on the bag from both C/3B position.
Defense: 3B: Low hips, quick feet; Agile for size and shows ability to adjust hips to bounces.
C: Good footwork and direction towards Second. Pulls glove to throwing hand allowing efficient transfers. Soft body for blocks and able to get out of crouch well. Multiple stances and able to stick pitches
Run: 7.95 runner in the 60

Ken Blankenship, Lodi (CA), 2023
Positional Profile: 1B
Body: 6-2, 220-pounds. Strength and Physicality present in proportional frame.
Hit: RHH. High back elbow with toe tap and bigger hand load. Really gets his body into swings allowing balls to jump off the bat and carry deep into gaps. Power will be an asset Upward path, barrel staying with body. When he keeps the top hand strong through the zone the ball can really carry.
Power: 95 max exit velocity
Arm: RH. 1B - 65 mph. Full swing, high release; can adapt slot for different throws
Defense: Wider base and ability to scoop balls off the dirt; moved well laterally. Good bag work getting out early and staying in the ground.
Run: 8.09 runner in the 60

 

Jeremie Banuelos, Soledad (CA), 2023
Positional Profile: 1B/OF
Body: 6-2, 210-pounds. Strength in frame with wider shoulders and length in limbs. Physicality present and can keep being an asset.
Hit: RHH. Narrow start getting into back hip with front leg reach; hands start high, stay high well as he works forward into swing.  Compact barrel with quick hands; ability to really drive the ball with carry into both gaps on upward path. Projectable swing for Corner INF/OF.
Power: 93 max exit velocity, averaged 93 mph. 93’ max distance.
Arm: RH. 1B - 73 mph. High arm slot, focuses on flicking ball out of wrist. Able to make accurate throws
Defense: Played with high hips allowing him to move laterally and get off the bag. Able to keep nose on ball and pull out some picks.
Run: 7.72 runner in the 60

KC Karbowski, Heritage (CA), 2024
Positional Profile: 1B
Body: 5-8, 170-pounds. Wide shoulders on compact build with length in limbs. Current strength in upper half.
Hit: LHH. High hands/high back elbow, slight internally rotated front knee. Sits in back hip on load of front hip lift having short hand load. Gets into the frontside well and able to drive the backside. Consistently balanced upon swing finish. Projectable for position/age. Hits behind the baseball well with quick upward path. When he stayed through the baseball, more carry was produced. Stuck to RCF-RF with hard liners.
Power: 92 max exit velocity
Arm: LH. 1B - 63 mph. Side slot, loose actions. Ball cut/tailed to bags. Good arm strength.
Defense: Moved well off the bag, glove out in front and able to respond to different hops. Was able to make multiple picks for INF.
Run: 7.76 runner in the 60

Joshua Mirob, Crystal Springs Upland (CA), 2023
Positional Profile: 1B
Body: 5-8, 190-pounds. Good thickness and muscular build on wide shoulder, athletic frame.
Hit: LHH. Balanced base, flared elbows, barrel in middle of frame to start. Body turns with front knee in load. Stays behind the front-side on swings and balanced finish. Consistent fire from back shoulder with barrel working upwards through the zone; barrel stays vertical through the zone. Balls carried into both gaps and stayed behind the ball well.
Power: 91 max exit velocity
Arm: LH. 1B - 63 mph. Full swing out of the glove, hand stays on top of the ball. Limited life to bags.
Defense: Worked low off the bag and able to stay under the baseball. Willing to work to pick balls off the dirt.
Run: 7.09 runner in the 60

Eric Segura, Soledad (CA), 2023
Positional Profile: 3B
Body: 6-0, 187-pounds. Lanky limbs with current strength in upper half; athletic mover with good thickness.
Hit: RHH. Slight squat, lower hands, high back elbow. Keeps strong posture with front foot having slight lift. Ability to drive hips and kick backside through for direction. Braces the hips and body well allowing swing to be consistent. Quick hands with easy turns. Braces well to provide strong direction as well. Best swings have barrel stay tight and easily controlled the barrel. Able to have balls jump to the gaps with carry and pop to the pull-side. Very projectable.
Power: 90 max exit velocity
Arm: RH. 3B - 83 mph. Lower slot, easy arm strength. Loose and whippy keeping throws firm on the bag.
Defense: Active feet able to drop hips and cover ground both ways. Glove was strong able to adjust to different types of grounders.
Run: 7.63 runner in the 60

Justin Sechler, Serra (CA), 2024
Positional Profile: 3B
Body: 5-10, 165-pounds. Wider shoulders, length in limbs, strength there with good thickness, still space to tighten.
Hit: RHH. Balanced, slightly opened, High back elbow. Sinks back hip early in load allowing him to coil around it. Quiet actions and ability to get into the front side; braces well. Fluid, easy swing with barrel and body sticking together; two-hand finish above back shoulder. Easy jump off the bat to LF/LCF. Projectable swing.
Power: 86 max exit velocity
Arm: RH. INF - 74 mph. Loose arm, fluid out of the glove regularly in consistent slot. Kept throws firm to bag.
Defense: Worked low getting into hips well keeping back flat and glove out front. Showed ability to cross-over and cover laterally.
Run: 7.45 runner in the 60

Micah Billings, James Logan (CA), 2023
Positional Profile: 1B/3B
Body: 5-11, 175-pounds. Big frame soft build currently; square shoulders, length will tighten in time.
Hit: RHH. High back elbow with hands at back shoulder; works behind the ball creating lift with strong two-hand finish. Upwards path on barrel; times where it cuts the zone. Best ones allow him to drive liners into gaps and straightaway CF.
Power: 83 max exit velocity, averaged 83 mph. 83’ max distance.
Arm: RH. 1B - 72 mph, 3B - 69 mph. Compact, high arm. Ball was straight with dive to bags; better actions when at 1B
Defense: Good footwork and movements working wide and low showing ability to cross-over and make a play laterally. At first was able to utilize his size to make plays on the bag.
Run: 8.91 runner in the 60

Ethan Johnson, Leland (CA), 2025
Positional Profile: C/3B
Body: 6-0, 193-pounds. Long torso, square shoulders, current strength there and projection at full maturity.
Hit: LHH. Wide base, hands very tight on back shoulder. Weight on backside, with early foot reach; hands stay low dropping off back shoulder. Upwards path. Length in the swing, stays inside the ball well. When he was on time and stayed tight, the ball had some jump off the bat.
Power: 83 max exit velocity
Arm: RH. C - 65 mph. 3B - 68 mph. Compact out of glove, whip hand on throws creates some run.
Defense: Wider base, fields a bit deeper on grounders at 3B. Keeps feet underneath him well.
Bit higher in the hips when working pop times. Good transfers and quick footwork. Ball regularly in a spot for infielders to make plays.
Run: 8.25 runner in the 60

Mateo Alonzo, Redwood (CA), 2024
Positional Profile: 3B/SS
Body: 5-9, 170-pounds. Thicker build with wide shoulders. Frame can tighten as maturity occurs
Hit: RHH. Narrow stance more weight in back hip, High Hands staying tight as front leg reaches with push back over hip.  Stays tight with direct bat path; stayed inside baseball well and able to focus through the middle of the field with low liners.
Power: 81 max exit velocity
Arm: RH. 3B - 71 mph. Compact arm, gets high back elbow allowing for flick release. Throws had run.
Defense: Moved well at position, getting into good position for fielding/funneling ball to arm. Glove was good receiving; can get more consistent in pushing through baseball.
Run: 7.94 runner in the 60

Harry Pelzman, Serra (CA), 2024
Positional Profile: 1B
Body: 6-1, 175-pounds. Lanky frame with squared shoulders; size suggests another growth and added strength.
Hit: LHH. Tall stance, high hands, high back elbow. Back hip stays high, slight movement backwards with hands; hip drive was consistent and good to the zone. Hands worked down to the ball well and drove through the zone finishing strong up over his shoulders; when body kept posture, allowed barrel to stay through ball and lots of low liners through the OF. 
Power: 81 max exit velocity
Arm: LH. 1B - 68 mph. High elbow out of glove, able to swivel around the elbow well with good hand speed.
Defense: Good footwork and ability to work through the baseball; glove was fluid and controlled with good actions and agility around the bag. Projectable skills.
Run: 8.71 runner in the 60
