FHSAA Diamond Notes 4/30 to 5/6

Throughout the 2019 high school season, we’re accepting nominations from the coaches across the state of Florida for their program’s PDQ Player of the Week candidates. While there can only be one PDQ Player of the Week in the state, we’ll be using this weekly FL Diamond Notes post to highlight the top performers of the past week who fell just short of PDQ POTW honors. We cover all corners of the state, and the evidence is in this post.
Below are the Diamond Notes from April 30 to May 6.
PBR Florida would like to thank all the coaches from across the state who nominated their players. There were numerous worthy selections, making it a difficult challenge to narrow down our Diamond Notes.
Mitchell LeRoy, RHP, Freedom, 2019
A Hillsborough CC recruit, LeRoy tossed a five inning perfect game against Blake High School on April 30th.
Ryan Pettys, LHP, Mosley, 2019
Pettys is no stranger to our Diamond Notes, having been nominated multiple times before, and for good reason. The southpaw, signed with Florida State, continued his outstanding year on the mound, going six innings against Lincoln, allowing three hits and striking out eight. Pettys also went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored.
Brandon O’Brien, 3B, John Carroll Catholic, 2019
A College of Central Florida recruit, O’Brien helped lead the Rams to a 12-2 victory over Centennial. O’Brien racked up three hits on the day, including two home runs, resulting in four RBI.
Logan Keller, SS, Lake Brantley, 2019
Signed with Alabama, Keller has been the leading hitter on Lake Brantley all season long. This week was no different for the talented infielder. In three games last week, Keller went 4-for-8 with three doubles and two RBI against Lake Brantley’s toughest district competition.
Josiah Miller, INF, North Florida Christian, 2019
Miller is another prospect that we have grown quite familiar with through the Diamond Notes. Miller has been on a tear for North Florida Chirstian all spring and should be one of the most feared hitters as we enter the postseason. Last week the Florida State recruit, in one game, went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBI, two walks and two runs scored.
Orion Kerkering, RHP, Venice, 2019
Kerkering, signed with South Florida, channeled his inner Greg Maddux against Sarasota last week. In an efficient outing Kerkering used only 77 pitches in a complete game shutout, allowing two hits, zero walks and striking out 10.
Chandler Marsh, RHP, Wellington, 2021
Only a sophomore, Marsh took to the mound for Wellington on May 1st against Spanish River. Showing composure beyond his age, Marsh tossed five shutout innings allowing only two hits while striking out five.
