By: Illinois Scouting Staff

On Monday, June 5th, the PBR Illinois staff traveled to Providence Catholic High School to host the Hounds Scout Day, where 50+ players from the Hounds travel program participated in a pro-style workout in front of our staff.

Shorlty after the event our staff highlighted a few of the statistical standouts inside our data dive, shining light on players who put up numbers across our traditional categories, as well as our TrackMan and Blast Motion leaders. You can find that by clicking HERE.

After compiling our scout notes, today we'll bring you this 'Takeaways' story, where we'll shine some light on a few names that stood out to our evaluators from this event. You'll learn more on these athletes below.

TAKEAWAYS

+ OF/RHP Nick Konopiots (Downers Grove North, 2025) had one of the best all-around performances at this event last month. Konopiots stands in an athletic 6-foot-1, 170-pound build with projectability. During his round of BP, Konopiots consistently sent line drives to all fields with his short and uphill path from the right side of the plate. He had the quickest hand speed at the event, per Blast, with an average speed of 23.2 mph. An athletic defender in the outfield, he fielded the ball in stride and worked in-line on throws to home, recording a max velocity of 82 mph. His athleticism played on the mound as he showed a clean delivery and arm action. His fastball sat 78-80 mph with mostly straight actions. His curveball showed 11/5 action and sat 61-64 mph. Rounding out his three-pitch mix, Konopiots threw a change-up with downward and fading action.

+ RHP/OF Tommy Majchrowicz (Downers Grove North, 2025) is another incoming junior to know from this event. Standing in an athletic 5-foot-10, 160-pound frame with some present strength, Majchrowicz started off the day by running an event best 7.15 60 time. Hopping on the mound, he looked to be one of the top pitching prospects from the event with a quick and lively arm that had noticeable acceleration out front. His fastball sat 85-86 mph, topping out at 86.9 mph with an average of 16.3 inches of horizontal movement and 15.7 inches of induced vertical break. His slider sat 72-73 mph with quality spin at 2360 rpm on average, and his change-up sat in the upper-70s with 11.1 inches of horizontal movement. During the batting practice portion of the event mostly sent line drives (60%) up the middle and to the pull-side. He produced the second highest max exit velocity at the event of 91.7 mph and the highest average exit velocity of 84.1 mph. His strong arm played well from the outfield, too, as he fired his best bullet at 88 mph on a throw to home (an event high).

+ C Noah Tomaras (Lemont, 2024) stands in a strong 5-foot-11, 180-pound frame. The uncommitted senior-to-be showed well for our staff last month at Providence Catholic High School. Tomaras looked like a natural behind the dish, working quickly to release, popping a 1.99 on his best throw down to second base while peaking at 79 mph from the crouch. Consistently on the barrel (60%), Tomaras blasted the farthest ball of the day (330’), and he produced a peak exit velocity of 91.1 mph from the right side. He also showed quick bat speed with an average speed of 70.4 mph and a peak speed of 75.1 mph, both good for second at the event.

+ OF Luke Nicholaus (Lyons, 2025) is a physical left-handed hitter that showed some raw power during his round of BP. The 6-foot, 185-pound, incoming junior, blasted the hardest hit ball of the day with a max exit velocity of 92.2 mph, sending his furthest batted ball 329 feet. From the outfield, Nicholaus attacked the baseball in-stride and fired his hardest throw at 82 mph, tied the second highest at the event.

+ MIF Lon Roberts (Lyons, 2026) and INF Sullivan Kazee (St. Rita, 2026) are two incoming sophomores whose metrics may not be eye-catching, but their workout still showed signs of projection. Roberts is a switch-hitter with quality bat-to-ball skills from both sides of the plate. Standing at an athletic and projectable 5-foot-5, 125-pounds, he impressed at the plate, sending line drives to all fields, barreling the ball 52% of the time. An agile defender, Roberts moved well to both sides with a quick and clean transfer. Kazee is a wiry 6-foot-1, 165-pounds with room to fill out. He sent balls up the middle and to the pull-side with a direct, flat plane with a 60% sweet spot percentage. An upside look on the mound with clean actions, Kazee’s fastball sat in the mid-70s with an 83% spin efficiency. His change-up had quality movement with 15.4 inches of horizontal action.

+ SS/RHP Colin Doyle (Downers Grove North, 2027) made his PBR event debut last month at Providence Catholic High School and impressed. Doyle’s frame stands out for his age standing in a projectable 6-foot-3, 175-pound frame. He controlled his long levers on the mound, showing clean actions and feel for his three-pitch mix. His fastball sat 76-79 mph, topping out at 79.8 mph with 87% spin efficiency. His curveball has 11/5 shape with short actions, but he finds it in and around the strike zone. Doyle’s change-up has some fading actions, and he kills the spin, too (1567 rpm). Intriguing at the plate, he has a natural uphill swing, almost exclusively sending balls up the middle and to the pull-side. Showed fluid actions in the infield working in rhythm throughout.

+ Making his PBR event debut, RHP Aiden Pankros (Riverside-Brookfield, 2025) impressed our staff in his bullpen. Pankros stands in a wiry 6-foot-3, 175-pound build with room to add on more strength. His fastball sat 78-80 mph, topping out at 81.4 mph with 12.4 inches of horizontal movement. He threw the top slider at the event, spinning it at 2227 rpm on average, sitting 69-70 mph.

+ MIF Luke Fordonski (Downers Grove North, 2025) stands in a lean and athletic 6-foot, 165-pound frame. The right-handed hitter produced the second highest sweet spot percentage (80%) of the day and one of the highest peak exit velocities (90.8 mph). A direct and flat path helped him send line drives (50%) to all fields. He’s a smooth defender with quick feet that work around the baseball with soft hands to pair. Fordonski ran a 7.39 in the 60-yard dash.
