Kansas High School Spring Spotlight: Pratt

The Kansas high school baseball season kicks off on March 19, opening day for regular season action under KSHSAA regulations. Leading up to opening day, we’ll be publishing our team previews ahead of the 2024 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications, counting down through the official Prep Baseball Kansas Preseason Power 25 Rankings.

Perennially, we’ve submitted a preseason questionnaire to high school head coaches across the entire state. Their responses have been flooding in and we’re using the detailed insight they’ve provided in our team-by-team preseason analysis.

2024 SEASON OUTLOOK

No. of Returning Starters:

8

Top Returning Players:

Jayden Mies, P/1B, SR, 6’0, 185, L/L, We go as far as he takes us on the mound. Also our 3 hole.

Chaz Teafitiller, C, JR, 6’1, 190, R/R, tough out, receives and throws well behind the plate.

Barrett Bolen, P/3B, SR, 6’0, 200, R/R, Very good 3rd baseman, improved velocity over the summer.

Top Newcomers:

Owen Schmidt, P/OF, JR, 5’10, 170, L/L, will compete for starting position in the outfield, and bump.

Josiah Schmidt, P/IF, SO, 6’2, 205, R/R, has some pop, will compete for a starting position.

Coach’s Insight:

“Our team strength this year will be the number of arms we have and ability to defend. Our biggest area of concern is always mental toughness, and ability to consistently score runs.” – Ron Hill, head coach
