2023 Future Games: Team Ohio - Workout/Gameday Notes

The 12th annual Future Games took place on July 26-29 at LakePoint in Emerson, Georgia. Top uncommitted prospects in the classes of 2025 and 2026 participated in one of the most popular events of the year.

There were 32 teams, including Team Ohio, with players representing 44 states plus Canadian prospects. Each team played three games the final three days of the event after all position players were put through a showcase workout on Wednesday. More than 375 college coaches from across the country were looking on as approximately 500 players participated in this year’s event.

Team Ohio went 2-1, defeating Team Midwest on Thursday and Team Illinois on Friday, while losing to Team Pennsylvania on Saturday.

The Arms

Landen Doll LHP / 1B / Jackson, OH / 2025

Report: Obvious physical tools + Arm talent to match. Big frame that shows plenty of room to add. Shorter AA from an over the top angle. Deceptive to hitters w/ feel to both sides of the dish. FB: 84-86 (2200 rpm) SL: 72-74 (2000 rpm)

Cooper Gilkerson RHP / 3B / Hilliard Darby, OH / 2025

Report: 6-1, 180 lbs frame w/ room to add. Consistent movements that translates a clean arm slot. Easy juice on the FB that creates several inches of Horizontal Movement. +CH that tunnels off the high SR on the heater. FB: 88-89 (2100 rpm) CH: 78-80 (1200 rpm) CB: 76-78 (2200 rpm)

Charlie Hoagland LHP / OF / Chaminade Julienne, OH / 2025

Report: Long, wirey frame w/ promise. Film doesn’t do the effortless/ repeatable actions justice. FB creates some ride while tunneling from the same lower, loose arm slot. FB up to 87 w/ some SNK feel. High spin rate on the breaker.

Grant Jolly RHP / MIF / Wapakoneta, OH / 2025

Report: 6-0, 170 lbs Frame that uses a variety of ways to get outs. 3 pitch arsenal that featured a FB w/ ride, setting up the +CH w/ heavy fade. +SR on the FB that tunnels from the same slot. FB: 87-90 (2200 RPM) CH: 82-84 (+).

Grant Keffaber RHP / 3B / Lebanon, OH / 2025

Report: Physical/ Demanding presence on the mound. Throws an efficient, heavy FB (up to 89.8) that sets up a wipeout BB. Easy juice that shows promise for more. High follow.

Noah Kubasky LHP / 1B / Lake, OH / 2025

Report: 6-foot-3, 215-pound physical dude. Obvious physical tools to follow. Arm talent is there & shows the ability to command the entire arsenal. FB w/ late/heavy Life sits mid-upper 80s. Mostly known for what he's does on the mound from the left side but also showed well in the box from the left. Strength stands out right away with batspeed also grading out as an above average tool. Middle of the lineup profile with mid 90s peak exits.

Harper Lann RHP / Walsh Jesuit, OH / 2025

Report: Bigger, physical frame that generates easy velo + SR. Been in the zone all day while mixing in the entire arsenal to both sides of the dish. SNK: 85-87.

Brody Papay LHP / Avon, OH / 2025

Report: 6-foot-4, 180-pound. Solid on the mound, showed some arm speed, also used a high ¾ arm angle and a loose longer arm action. Tall-and-fall type pitcher who shows some effort. He has downhill shoulders with a strong balance point. Shows slight running action. Ran the heater up to 87mph.

Braylon Schneider RHP / 3B / Fremont Ross, OH / 2025

Report: 6-foot-2, 185-pound. Solid on the mound, showing quick arm speed he had a high ¾ arm angle and a loose longer arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses some effort. Balance point is tall with a downhill shoulders during delivery. Had slight running action. Ran the FG up to 91mph and sat in the upper 80s (Max spin 2213; Avg 2085). Showed a 11/5 curveball with gradual action. (Max spin 1857; Avg 1857). His 10/4 slider showed late action.

Joey Watts RHP / OF / Archbishop Moeller, OH / 2025

Report: 6-2, 182-pound prospect. Used a high-¾ arm angle with a loose arm action while showing some arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses some effort. Showed slight running action. His 11/5 curveball had some sweeping action. FB sat in the mid to upper 80s.

The Two-Way Prospects

Jack Ryan 3B / RHP / St. Xavier, OH / 2026

Report: One of the top two-way prospects in the country. 6-foot-2, 180-pound physical / projectable athlete who showed off the hit tool today. LH stick with high-end raw power. Every time we see him the bat grades higher and higher. Landed on balls in BP (regular mid 90s jump T98EV) with obvious middle of the order traits. Ran it up to 88.4 while bullying hitters with an aggressive fastball & finishing w/ a short, tunneled slider at 76-77. Big, physical frame with bulldog mentality.

Joey Buchanan LHP / 1B / Milford, OH / 2025

Report: Premier two-way talent in class. In the box it's an uber athletic mover from the left side with quality natural tools. Already impressive skill set with much more to come as he fills out. 70+ mph batspeed / capable of 90+mph jump. Up to 85.2 on the bump from the left side.

The Catchers

Taylor Belza C / 3B / Saint Ignatius, OH / 2025

Report: Top 5 rated player in the 2025 class. 6-foot-1, physical bat with some of the louder pop we saw at of the group, running it up to 99mph off the bat several times with a peak EV of 100.2mph. Does things most can't do in the box. During game play, went 5-6, 2B, 2 RBI, BB, SB. The only out was a fly ball to warning track. Also crushed workout day!

Austin Rose C / 1B / Newark, OH / 2025

Report: 6-foot-3 / put together and still has substantial projection to frame. Smooth swinger with quality present tools (100.6 TEV / 80+mph batspeed) and much more to come. Doesn't take a seasoned scout to see the run producer profile here. Behind the dish it's clean, athletic, and catch % throw/receive at a high-level. A rare high floor, high ceiling prospect.

The Infielders

Daniel Briggs SS / 2B / Dublin Coffman, OH / 2025

Report: Very talented prospect who had a big summer and turned in a strong showing today. Started off by posting a 6.73 60-yard dash. In the box everything comes together well and he has feel for contact. Table setter type bat with quality jump / barrels coming off the low 90s. Also expect him to be a standout up the middle of the infield.

Ian Cain 3B / RHP / Avon, OH / 2025

Report: Cain continues his ascension up recruiting boards. Carried a big summer into a standout showing in the showcase portion. Ran a 6.6 laser timed 60-yard dash and sprayed it around the yard well in BP. Considering his feel, efficiency and tools he's a guy you could put pretty much anywhere in lineup. Stood out with the glove during game action.

Carter Christenson SS / 2B / Archbishop Moeller, OH / 2025

Report: Explosive athlete who recently reopened his recruitment. Started off the day by running a 6.5 flat - laser timed. In the box it was fast-twich with quality physicality. Also showed premier batspeed at 80+mph with barrels coming off in the mid 90s.

Nicholas Frontino SS / RHP / Saint Ignatius, OH / 2025

Report: 6-3, rangy, +defender w/ high level movements. Mechanically sound & extremely toolsy prospect. Above avg. arm from across the Diamond while maintaining elite footwork/actions. Showcases the hit tool here w/ an RBI to deep LCF. Can really rotate in the box.

Ryan Sudbrook SS / 2B / Avon, OH / 2025

Report: One of the smoother athletes representing the Buckeye state. Everything he does is fluid, easy. Barrelled up everything in BP, showing a pure path, natural flight and line to line capabilities. Also should flash the leather at a high level.

Drew Tajblik SS / RHP / Lake, OH / 2025

Report: Explosive athlete. Ran a 6.73 60-yard dash and showed high end batspeed in the box. Ideal top of the lineup candidate with sneaky pop / more to come as he fills out his projectable frame.

Preston Zumwalt 3B / SS / Tippecanoe, OH / 2025

Report: One of the top pure hit tools on Ohio's roster stood out in a big way / could make an argument he took the top BP on the roster. Fluid mover with mid to upper 70s. batspeed and heavy hands through contact. Generated loud pop to all fields with the loudest barrels coming off in the upper 90s.

The Outfielders

Gavin Lawler OF / RHP / Grove City, OH / 2025

Report: Impressive showing in the early goings here. Ran a 6.73 laser-timed 60-yard dash at 6-foot-2, 185-pounds. Everything flushed with come off at 90mph plus with upper 90s capabilities. Love the combo of size, physicality and athleticism here.

Cam Simmons OF / LHP / New Albany, OH / 2025

Report: 6-foot-1, athletic/physical dude with premier tools in the box. Batspeed in the mid to upper 70s and heavy hands through contact. Low to mid 90s jump off the barrel with upper 90s to triple digits capabilities.

Chandler Taylor OF / 3B / Badin, OH / 2026

Report: One of the top bats in the state regardless of class. Oozes with feel with fluid actions throughout sequence. Barrelled everything throughout round / one of the more accurate barrels you'll find down here. Also has substantial projection left. Dude.
