Q and A with 2014 Dayton Commit: Danny Hentz (Northwest HS)

Danny Hentz, RHP, Northwest HS, Class of 2014

PBR: Why did you choose Dayton?

Hentz: I liked the coaching staff, training facilities, and current players I met with on my visit.  I also liked the campus/atmosphere and they have a very good School of Business Administration.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Hentz: Tiffin, Otterbein, Marrietta,and Earlham

PBR: Where did the Dayton coaching staff first see you and how did your relationship begin with them?

Hentz: I'm not sure the first time they saw me, I'm guessing it was at a PBR or Flames showcase or one of my summer games with the Ohio Force or Cincy Flames.  My first contact was with Coach Talarico after the Cincy Flames D1 Coaches Showcase this past December but Coach Talarico told me they have been watching me for while.

PBR:  You have recently jumped up on the radar screen in the recruiting process.  What can attribute to your recent success?

Hentz: My velocity has continued to increase.

PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?

Hentz:  I hope to lead my team to the SWOC League Championship and make it past the second round of the tournament, by hitting for more power and being selected to the SWOC First Team.

PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 baseball program?

Hentz:  It hasn't really sunk in yet but it has been a goal of mine since I was little.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Hentz: I play for the Cincy Flames.  My most memorable moment, even though it ended in a loss, was pitching a complete game (2 hitter) against the 2013 Tournament of Champions winner, the Richmond Braves.

PBR:  What person has the great impact on your baseball career and why?

Hentz: I would say it was a combination of all the coaches I've had over the years.  I learned something about game and life from each of them.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season at Northwest?

Hentz: I've listed the stats from my Junior year, since this season hasn't started yet.
Hitting Totals .373 BA, 20 RBIs, 7 2B,, 2 3B
Pitching Totals:  38.2 IP, 5 W, 2 L, 1 SV, 41 K, 1.48 WHIP, 3.10 ERA

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?
