With the 2019 spring season right around the corner, PBR Ohio is eagerly anticipating bringing the Buckeye state the best high school coverage throughout the entire state. Starting in January, we began releasing team previews for teams across the state, leading into the Preseason All-State Teams as well as the Preseason State Rankings.

2019 Spring Team Preview: South Point Pointers

Conference Record: Ohio Valley Conference, 10-4 - (2nd)
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 7/6

2019 Team Strengths:

  • Defense
  • Offensive Execution

Coach Outlook: "7 players returning that were in the starting lineup mix last season. We expect to play competitive baseball every time we step on the field."

PBR Outlook: The Pointers are poised for a big 2019 season. Coming off a 20-5 season in 2018, coach Larry Goodwin returns seven players that were big contributors in the previous season.

  • Brody Blackwell, SS/RHP, 2020, 6-2/170-lbs 2 year starter, 2018 All-District/All OVC. 
  • Drew Smith, CF/RHP, 2019, 5-11/150-lbs 2 year starter, 2018 All-District/All OVC. Team Captain.
  • Drake McClure (Video), C/ RHP,/Utility, 2019, 5-10/185 2 year starter, Team Captain.
  • Brycen McCann, SS/ OF/P. 2019, 6-1/165 1 year starter, Team Captain
  • Ben Walls, 3B/1B/ P, 2020, 6-1 215, 1 year starter.
  • Dawson Runyon, P/1B/SS/Utility, 2019, 6-0 175, 1 year starter, Team Captain.
  • Brendan Dillion, OF/INF/P, 2021, 5-8/155, 1 year starter.
