PBR Future Games Preview: 2018 OF Kyle Hess

By Greg Williams

Pennsylvania Director of Scouting

On August 4th through August 6th, PBR Pennsylvania will take a select team of players in the Classes of 2018 and 2019 to represent Pennsylvania at the PBR Future Games at Grand Park in Indianapolis, IN.

Players receive exposure unlike any other event for underclassmen. Last year, more than 130 colleges from all over the country were in attendance, including coaches from every Division I power conference in the nation. Only players who have a legitimate shot at being a Division I recruit and who have an interest in the possibility of making a verbal commitment during their sophomore or junior seasons have been considered.

TEAM PENNSYLVANIA SPOTLIGHT: 2018 OF Kyle Hess

Kyle HessName: Kyle Hess
Position: OF
Class: 2018
State Ranking: 16
Height/Weight: 6-foot, 175-pounds
High School: Donegal
Summer Team(s): All Star Baseball Academy

Most Recent Showcase/In-Game Performances:
Date: 2/14/16

Scouting Report:
6-foot, 175-pound left-handed hitter has plenty of fast-twitch projectability to his actions. Sophomore has recently closed his stance considerably and shortened his stride to take advantage of above average hands. Additional work to clear his lower half to allow his hands to work freely should lead to additional power potential. Hess registered an 89 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 6.70 60-yard dash. The sophomore moves well defensively and displayed 82 mph arm strength from the outfield.

Date: 11/7/15

Scouting Report:

Hess stood out, or, more accurately, ran to the head of the class, with a blazing 6.64 60-yard dash. The 6-foot, 170-pound left-handed hitter starts from an open stance and strides to slightly closed. His hands work and he keeps his head still throughout his swing. Has some strength in his wrists and forearms that helped generate an 86-mph exit velocity. Defensively, he exhibited a nice, short arm action and his throws of 83-mph traveled true with carry. As a freshman, Hess was one of only two underclass starters on the Indians' PIAA Class AAA state semifinal squad.
