Underclass Preview Analysis: Class of 2018 Two-Way Prospects

The 2017 Underclass Preview brought together 32 prospects from across the state on January 14th at Keystone State Baseball Academy. Today we conclude our analysis with a look at players in the Class of 2018 that participated as as two-way prospects.

Nate YoungNate Young, 1B/LHP, Ephrata HS
6-foot-1, 160-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a heel raise stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 75 mph. Solid defender with a soft glove hand showcased 72 mph arm strength across the diamond. Lefty sat 75-77 off the bump from a high 3/4 arm slot with and easy, repeatable delivery. 61 mph curveball showed hard, biting 12/6 rotation. Also displayed a 65 mph changeup thrown at fastball arm speed. Athletic, projectable body. Should see velocity spike over next two years.

Nicolaus MorrettNicholaus Morrett, OF/RHP, Dover HS
Projectable frame at 6-foot-3, 185-pounds. Right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a leg-lift stride. Displayed some present power with the ability to create backspin and a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. Ran a 6.88 60-yard dash and showcased 88 mph arm strength from his outfield position. Righty began pitching in the past year. Sat 81-83 from a high 3/4 arm slot with some arm side run. Additional velocity is likely as he continues to work on the craft. 68 mph slider showed cutter action with 10/4 rotation while his 70 mph changeup is thrown with near fastball arm speed.

Roger RoettgerRoger Roettger, 3B/RHP, Moon Area HS
6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a heel raise stride. A deep load leads to length in his swing with some barrel drag. Registered a bat exit velocity of 84 mph and ran a 7.27 60-yard dash. Displayed a developing skill set defensively with accurate 72 mph arm strength across the diamond. Righty sat 74-75 while touching 77 mph out of a 3/4 arm slot with some cut action. Showed good command of a 65 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation and a 70 mph changeup at near fastball arm speed. Held velocity well out of the stretch.
