2023 Team Previews - Ballard

Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Washington.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons at the State Tournament, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Washington. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and eventually releasing our preseason Top 25 teams in the state.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week and updating the Top 25 teams in the state.

Team Outlook:
After a 15-12 campaign in 2022, the Ballard Beavers head into the season with senior leadership in some crucial spots while also looking to rely on their youth to step up and contribute this season. Senior captains Max Finkelstein (Pacific University commit) and Max Sevier will likely anchor the offense from the top of the order. Finkelstein will handle SS duties while Sevier uses his athleticism patrolling the OF. Both are experienced hitters who will look to lead the way from the top of the order. 2 other key bats will be ‘24 Adam Tripp and ‘25 Truitt Madonna. Tripp is an athletic 2-way prospect who will see time in the INF and on the hill. Looks poised to be a ‘riser’ this spring in the ‘24 class. Madonna had a highly successful freshman season and is looking to build on that momentum. He’s a mature hitter with quiet confidence in his demeanor and will also add some catching duties to his resume this spring. Ballard will rely on a pair of senior arms to eat a bulk of the innings with RHP Charlie Coffman (Whitman commit) and RHP Kaden Larson. Coffman figures to draw the toughest match-ups in a competitive Metro League while Larson will take a step forward into a bigger role. Lastly, keep an eye out for junior INF Julian Pyo. Just relocated to the states from Korea this winter in order to pursue baseball and could emerge as an impact bat. There will be some additional opportunites for 2025-2026 prospects to step into early on in the spring and HC Doug Montgomery hopes those players can have an impact as they look to make some noise in the Metro playoffs.
