The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Washington.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons at the State Tournament, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Washington. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and eventually releasing our preseason Top 25 teams in the state.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week and updating the Top 25 teams in the state.

Team Outlook:
The Highlanders finished the 2022 campaign with an 8-13 record and bowed out in the 1st round of the KingCo playoffs. The upcoming season should yield more productive results as HC Jordan Seiber returns 8 starters to the line-up and 11 players overall who played significant varsity innings last season. Senior OF Jadon Grossnickle was 2nd team All-KingCo last year and should set the table offensively. 3 key juniors to watch are Isaac Lee, Morrie Solam and Marcus McCarthy. Lee was 1st team All-KingCo in 2022 & he and McCarthy look ready to provide ample offense this season as both performed admirably in their preseason showings, especially with the bat. Junior RHP Zan Siebersma will likely accumulate a lot of innings at the top of the rotation and draw some tough assignments during the challenging parts of Hazen’s schedule. Fellow junior Riley Ottele saw action in 11 games last season and heads into 2023 with the opportunity to earn a more permanent role. Ottele is another Hazen prospect who performed well in the preseason and is noticeably stronger & more physical now. Lastly, look for sophomore Alvin Chang to build on a solid freshman season and hopefully produce like an all-league talent. Overall, the experience this young roster hopes to gain from early season travel could help bring them closer together as they begin to navigate through a challenging KingCo league season.
