Scouting Report

2-26-17

6-foot-1, 175-pound right hand hitting OF who ran a 4.00 home to first.  At the plate he is tall and balanced.  Swing is level through the hitting zone with a high finish after contact.  Weight rotates through the zone with good extension at contact.  Exit velocity was 87 MPH.  In the outfield he has great speed and can cut the ball off.  Throws from a high ¾ arm slot.  Throws are accurate to the bag.  Arm velocity was 75 MPH.  Behind the plate he has a compact and quiet set up.  He frames well and moves quickly on balls in the dirt.  Arm can improve both power and accuracy at this position.  Pop-times were 2.20-2.35 with a 66 MPh arm.

10-1-16
6-foot 170 pounds. Bats and throws right. Had a good weekend. At the plate stands tall with minimal load and slight leg kick. Most of his weight is on his back side at point of contact. Swing is slightly uphill with a one-handed finish. Would like to see him loosen up a bit, and create some more rhythm. Exit velo continues to improve, and was 82 mph this event off the tee up from 77. In the outfield has a ton of range. Arm velocity improving as well up to 78 mph. Last event ran a 6.7 laser timed 60 and this event came in at 6.69.

8-6-16

6-foot 170 pounds. Bats and throws right. We have seen Shearn a lot, and no player has shown more improvement than he has over the last two years. You can never ignore the speed (running a 6.7 laser timed 60), but Shearn has cleaned up a lot of mechanics with throwing and hitting. On defense arm strength has improved to 78 mph from the outfield from a high 3/4 arm slot. At the plate has a balanced wide stance with short stride and good lower half rotation. Sometimes comes off extension too soon but gets better leverage to ball now. Gap to gap power producing a 77 mph exit velo. Things are starting to come together as he's getting bigger and stronger.

9-12-15

A 5-foot-11, 163-pound, right-hand hitting two-way player. Ran the fastest 60 time at the event at 6.67.  In the outfield, he is aggressive on all balls and gets into good position using his speed.  A long arm produced a 70 MPH velocity with accurate throws through the cut.  Behind the plate he blocks well and receives pitches with soft hands.  He had pop-times of 2.27 and 2.30.  At the plate he has a simple approach with a short stride and slight hand load.  He shows good weight transfer through the zone and hits off his front side.  He had a 71 MPH exit velocity at this event.

10-19-14

5-foor-11, 153-pound right-handed outfielder already has the speed to get people to take notice.  Shearn uses 6.8 speed to move on balls into the gaps and behind him.  Needs to develop arm strength to go along with foot speed.  Threw 60 mph outfield velo in the event.  At the plate, he is a developing hitter.  Descent exit velo of 70 mph is on display on balls inside, but needs to develop the ability to hit to all fields.
