Libertyville Preseason I.D.: Preview

By Illinois Staff

On Sunday evening, the PBR Illinois team is headed to host an inaugural winter event, the Libertyville Preseason I.D., at the Libertyville Sports Complex. This open showcase is already sold out, with approximately 80 prospects set to attend.

We’ll take a look at the roster briefly here today, starting with Kaneland RHP Tyler Conklin (2021; uncommitted), who erupted at our Preseason All-State event earlier this month. There, Conklin stole the show by surprising our staff while sitting 89-91 mph, getting the most out of his unassuming, though strong, 5-foot-9 frame. Come this Sunday, Conklin won’t be pitching again, but we will see him inside the batter’s box and up the middle of the infield. His athleticism on the mound should translate well, considering he’s already shown us some two-way upside in the past.

We’ll also get another look at a 6-foot sophomore from Lake Forest, Cade Nowik (uncommitted), who we just saw back at this past weekend’s Underclass Invitational. Last weekend, Nowik was up to 84 mph on the mound and, like Conklin, we’ll also be seeing what else he can do this Sunday. Nowik’s older brother Breck is a UIC commit who’s demonstrated sincere two-way capabilities in the past, so we’ll see if Cade is molded in the same way.

RHP Joseph Crum (Springfield, 2021) is a talented junior with a clean arm action and throws a high-volume of strikes. Crum was one of the top arms for Springfield last spring as a sophomore.

More generally, this showcase’s roster is predominantly made up of prospects set to make their PBR showcase debuts on Sunday, and there should be lot of new names to add to our watch-lists ahead of this spring season and beyond.
