Game 1 Team Michigan vs Team Pennsylvania

LHP Oliver Jaskie retires the side in order with 1 strikeout. FB was 79-81 with a 72 MPH CB.

In the Bot of the first LHP Brendan McKay strikes out the side. FB was 82-86. CH was 76.

Oliver Jaskie (MI) of Forrest Hills Central HS gives up 4 runs on 2 hits and 1 error. His FB was at 79-81 with a nice CB at 68-72. Team PA is up 4-0 after 1 and a half innings of play.

Brendan McKay (PA) from Blackhawk HS cruises through the bottom half of inning number 2 with another 1-2-3 inning with 2 more K's. In two innings of work he has 5 strikeouts.

Brad Schaenzer LHP (MI) of Lake Orion HS struts his stuff with an impressive inning of work. His FB was at 86-88 with strong armside run, and a tight breaking ball at 75 MPH to match. Heading into the bottom of the 3rd, team PA leads team MI 4-0.

In the bottom of the 3rd RHP Brandon Birkhead (PA) of Pennsbury HS makes quick work of team MI to keep the score at 4-0. His FB was 81-82. He showed a strong CB with a velo of 69-70 MPH.

Another impressive inning of work from LHP Brad Schaenzer as he gives up no runs, on no hits, and no men left on base. Heading into the bottom of the 4th score remains the same, with Team PA leading Team MI 4-0.

Team MI shows a little bit of moxy in the bottom of the 4th inning putting 2 runs up on the board to make the score 4-2, with Team PA coming to bat in the top of the 5th.

Jacob Wahmhoff (MI) of Holland HS cruises through the top of the 5th inning. Score remains 4-2 with Team PA holding strong over Team MI.

In the bottom of the 5th inning there were no runs on no hits after a strong showing from RHP Dominic Cuoci (PA) of LaSalle College HS. His Fb velocity was 81-85 mph.

After 5 and a hhalf innings of play Team PA still leading Team MI 4-2. Michael Reid (MI) was helped out by his defense when his CF threw out a runner trying to score. Reid then got out of the inning with a nifty 4-6-3 double play.

Some more action in the bottom of the 6th as Team MI comes through with a clutch double, scoring two runs off of Team PA pitcher Eric Ligda. The score is all tied up at 4-4 heading into the top of the 7th.

In the top of the 7th, Team PA bounces back and pushes across 1 run and retake the lead over Team MI, 5-4.

RHP Eric Ligda (PA) of Avon Grove HS shuts down the Team MI offense in the bottom of the 7th, preserving the 1 run lead for his squad. Heading into the top of the 8th, Team PA is looking to extend their lead and take home the first victory of the day.

A quick 1-2-3 inning for Team MI LHP Michael Hendrickson in the top of the 8th. Hendrickson was able to make quick work out of the PA offense, finishing the inning in under 10 pitches.

In the bottom of the 8th Team MI is unable to push across any runs. Heading into the top of the 9th, it's Team PA over Team MI, 5-4.

RHP Logan Magsig gives Team MI a chance to come from behind in the bottom of the 9th as he makes short work of PA's offense. If MI can't score here, it's all over.

Back-to-back doubles by Team MI allowed them to tie the game at 5-5. Unfortunately, they couldn't muster anything else and game 1 of the 2012 PBR Midwest Future Games ends in a tie, 5-5.

 

Game 2 Team IN vs. Team MO

Team MO starts things off right putting 1 run across to take an early 1-0 lead over Team IN.

Storm Rynard (MO) makes it look so easy in the bottom of the 1st with a FB touching 90 mph, and a 79 mph slider to go with it. Looks like this could be a tough day for the IN offense. 1-0 MO over IN after one complete.

In the top of the 2nd, Team MO tries to put something together after drawing a couple walks and loading the bases, but RHP Chandler Sanburn (IN) is able to get out of the jam without giving up a run. Always something to be said about limiting damage in the early goings.

Bottom of the 2nd comes and goes without action as Storm Mynard (MO) again makes easy work of IN's offense with a big fastball and devastating slider. After 2 complete it is Team MO on top of Team IN 1-0.

In the top of the 3rd we finally have our first homerun of the wgames- a solo bomb off the bat of Team MO Colby Fitch. That would be the only hit in the inning though as Max Gray is able to keep any more damage from happening for Team IN. 2-1 Team MO after 1 and a half innings of play.

Bottom of the 3rd sees Storm Mynard (MO) continue to carve up team IN offense as he gets another 1-2-3 inning. After 3 complete, it's Team MO out in front of Team IN, 2-0.

Team MO refuses to let up as they push across 2 more in the top of the 4th inning, to make it 4-0 after 3 and a half innings of play. Team IN has its work cut out for them.

Team IN tries to get something going early but ends up with nothing as the inning is ended with an interesting 9-2-6-2 double play that sees not one, but two guys thrown out at the dish...rally killer. Score after 4 complete is Team MO 4, Team IN 0. #bad3bcoaching

Shane Benes is the provider of offense for Team MO in the top of the 5th inning as he leaves the yard in right centerfield for a 2 run jack, putting them up by 6.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, Team IN starts things off right with a lead off single, followed by back-to-back doubles as they finally get on the board with 2 runs. After a flyout, Team IN is able to tack on 2 more runs with 2 more back-to-back doubles. Add on another base hit and another run scored for Team IN. That would be it for the MO pitcher as the change is made. Once it was finally all over, Team IN takes the lead 8-6.

When it rains, it pours. In the top of the 6th the offense just keeps on coming as Colby Fitch hits his second HR of the game. This one a 2 run blast to right centerfield. By the end of the inning, Team MO would rally to retake the lead. Score after 5 and a half innings is Team MO 9 - Team IN 8.

And finally the action is put on hiatus as Zack Engelken shuts down the IN offense with a 1-2-3 inning. After 6 complete Team MO holds onto a 1 run lead over Team IN, 9-8.

The top of the 7th sees Matt Patton (IN) make a statement with a perfect inning of work.

In the bottom of the 7th there were no runs, on no hits thanks to a dominating performance on the mound by Zack Engelken of Team MO. After 7 complete the score remains the same with Team MO leading Team IN 9-8.

Team MO means business, folks. In the top of the 8th they put up 3 more runs on 4 hits, including a second HR of the game for Shane Benes. Nic Perkins also had a solo shot of his own. Going into the bottom of the 8th the score is Team MO 12 - Team IN 8.

Zack Engelken continues to shove as he again goes 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 8th.

RHP Jonah Patten makes short work of the MO offense with the help of a 92 MPH fastball, coupled with a sharp 80-82 MPH slider in the top of the 9th. Lets see if Team IN has what it takes to come from behind in the bottom of the 9th.

And that's the ballgame. RHP Jack Benninghoff closes the door to secure the victory for team MO. Final score: Team MO 12 - Team IN 8. Up next for our final game of the day is Team IL vs. Team OH.

 

Game 3 Team IL vs. Team Ohio

To start things off in the top of the first, Team OH was able to push across one run while threatening with more. Luckily for Team IL, RHP Brandon Bass was able to limit the damage with a strikeout to end the inning.

Team IL bounces right back with a quick run of their own thanks to an RBI double by Brian Richard. That's the only run they are able to score though, and after 1 complete inning of play we are all tied up at 1 apiece.

In the top of the 2nd Team OH scraps together 1 run on 1 hit to take a 2-1 lead over Team IL.

RHP Chris Martin (OH) makes easy work of Team IL as he throws a perfect 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the 2nd. After 2 full innings of play the score remains OH 2 - IL 1.

Not to be outdone in the top of the 3rd, RHP Wyatt Trautwein (IL) goes 1-2-3 with the help of an 85 mph fastball and an 80 mph slider.

Team IL bounces back strong with some patient plate approaches matched with some timely hitting. After 3 complete team IL leads Team OH 4-2.

LHP Jake Latz (IL) has a strong inning of work as he retires the side in order to hold the lead for Team IL at 4-2.

RHP Nick Pauley throws a shutout inning in the bottom of the 4th. Score after 4 complete is still 4-2.

In the top of the 5th, Team OH pushes 1 run across to inch closer to tying this game up. Team IL still leads 4-3 heading into the bottom half of the 5th.

Team IL scores another run in the bottom half of the 5th to extend their lead to 2, making the score after 5 complete IL 5 - OH 3.

Another scoreless inning behind a strong outing from Team IL RHP Riley Pawelski. Heading into the bottom half of the six the score remains 5-3 in favor of Team IL.

RHP Jayce Vancena (OH) bounces back to throw a shutout inning in his 2nd inning of work. After 6 full innings of play Team IL is still leading Team OH 5-3

In the top of the 7th Team OH threatens a big inning with bases loaded and only 1 out, but can only push 1 run across. They are keeping close as the score now stands at 5-4, Team IL still clinging to a 1 run lead.

There were no runs scored in the Bottom of the 7th thanks to a line drive double play to get Team OH out of what could have been a tough situation. After 7 complete, IL still leads OH 5-4.

Team OH refuses to back down and comes through with some clutch hitting in the top of the 8th inning as they tie it all up at 5 runs apiece.

Team IL showing their refuse to lose attitude as they retake the lead thanks to an RBI double that plates one in the bottom of the 8th. Heading to the top of the 9th IL leads OH by a score of 6-5.

Team OH is unable to push any runs across in the top half of the 9th so this game is over. Team IL defeats Team OH 6-5 in the final game of the day here at the 2nd annual Midwest Future Games. Come back and join us again tomorrow for more prep baseball action.
