The Geneva Vikings are off to a 2-0 start, and SS Nate Stempowski (2024; McHenry County commit) has been a driving force in their success, finishing this past week at a 7-for-8 clip with a home run, triple, three doubles and seven RBIs. For his stellar performance, Stempowski has been named this week’s Player of the Week.

Tuesday, March 19th was arguably the highlight of Stempowski’s week, as he hit for the cycle in an 18-3 win over South Elgin that only lasted four innings. His first at-bat of the game was a solo home run, followed by a two RBI double, then an RBI triple, capped off with a two RBI single - totaling six RBIs on the day.

Two days later in a 5-4 win over Yorkville, Stempowski finished the day 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. His RBI came in the top of the seventh with two outs to break the tie, as he drove a double all the way to the wall to score the go-ahead run from first base. Stempowski also came around to score two times in the game.

On top of his offensive performance, the shortstop had seven fielding chances on the week and didn’t commit a single error with five assists and two put-outs.

We're thankful for the POTW submissions we received from the coaches across the state. The players who garnered POTW consideration will earn a place within tomorrow's Diamond Notes story, so be on the lookout for that.
