2014 Team Preview: LaPorte High School

As we prepare for our 2014 high school preseason coverage, we are going to take a quick glance at teams from across the state.

OUTLOOK:

The LaPorte Slicers are looking for some improvement in 2014. Last season Coach Upp's squad finished a disappointing 10-20 overall and were just 2-12 in Duneland Conference play.  Upp is looking for his team to return to "respectability" after back to back sub-par seasons. Leading the way on the mound this spring is IPFW commit Evan Miller.  Miller is a 6-foot-1, 160 pound RHP who finished last season with 60 Ks. Miller is ranked as the No. 64 in Indiana's class of 2014 rankings.  Sophomore 1B/C Travis Upp was the leading hitter as a freshman in 2013 with a .364 average.  Four more seniors will be key components to the Slicers success this spring; RHP/3B/OF Drew Jones, IF Jack Benefiel, C/OF Blake Arnett, and OF Mike Eldridge. Benefiel is a Kalamazoo Valley commit that hit .288 last season.
