The 2024 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 30 rankings.

FRESHMEN TO FOLLOW

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Frenship Tigers and Coach Chad Reynolds look to be 6A championship contenders in 2024 behind their stacked returning roster. Frenship returns three players who earned All-State honors in 2023, as well as eight players who received All-District awards a year ago. The Tigers bring back a very experienced roster from 2023 that finished the season as 6A Area Finalists, to the tune of 13 seniors expected to play varsity roles in 2024. With an older and veteran group, the Tigers are primed for another strong season.

Headlining the senior class for Frenship is recent LA Tech signee, RHP/OF Brooks Roberson (2nd Team All-State & District Pitcher of the Year). A 2022 PBR Future Games participant, Roberson currently sits inside the top-500 nationally and at No. 43 in the state. Roberson is a long and athletic 6-foot-4, 190-pounds that was running his fastball up to 88 mph last spring, and we look forward to seeing what type of jump he has made for his senior season.

Blinn College signee, OF Landon Hutcheson is back for his senior campaign after an impressive 2023 that saw him earn Second Team All-State and District Most Valuable Player. Joining Hutcheson in the class is Panola JC commit, INF Brady Boles, who was a First Team All-District selection last season and is projected to be the team’s opening day shortstop. Projected to man the hot corner in 2024 for the Tigers is Odessa College commit, INF Nano Mendoza (2024), who was another First Team All-District player in 2023. Mendoza will be joined at Odessa by current teammate and Lubbock Cooper transfer, LHP Bryce LeBlanc (2024), who should help man the Tigers’ pitching staff alongside the previously mentioned Roberson. Helping to support this talented pitching staff will be C Hudson Hutcheson (2024; uncommitted), who was All-State Honorable Mention and First Team All-District last season behind the dish.

A couple uncommitted seniors to know who had impressive 2023’s for the Tigers are UTL Blaine Chancy (2nd Team All-District) and INF Santi Sanchez (Honorable Mention All-District). A junior that returns in 2024 after having a big sophomore season that saw him earn First Team All-District for Frenship is INF Holden Phillips (uncommitted). Phillips is currently ranked No. 153 for his class, and gives Coach Reynolds a big piece to build around for this year and next.

With the amount of talent and experience the Tigers bring back in 2024, Coach Reynolds has a lot to be excited about without even factoring in the talent he has coming up throughout the rest of his program. The Tigers are going to be on our staff’s watchlist as a potential Power 30 team this season, and should be a fun team to watch within the state’s 6A class.
