Uncommitted Spotlight - 2021 prospects

Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

Puyallup, WA - Earlier this Fall we were able to hold an event specifically for uncommitted 2021 prospects.

Fall events events such as this provide players with the opportunity to build their profile with the most up-to-date information and video footage before heading into the off-season. All players in attendance receive an online profile with their verified statistics, player report, picture and video. Additionally, all subsequent stories written about a prospect will be linked to the player’s profile, ultimately creating a one-stop shop for recruiters.

Showcases help identify which prospects have asserted themselves towards the top of their class as well as who might be one of the next youngsters to emerge onto the scene. They also serve as potential identifiers for invite-only events such as our Future Games and Junior Future Games

2021 prospects

Connor Beatty 3B / C / Woodinville , WA / 2021

6-foot-1, 170 pounds with a lean build and some defined strength. Offensively, uses a tall, upright stance in the box with a narrowly open lower half. Hands start relaxed, just above shoulder line before shifting down and back as he takes short, controlled forward stride. Weight stays centered as he gets into landing. Showed a strong, quick left-handed stroke with impressive bat speed. Consistently connected with ball out front, creating easy lift and power that should play from gap to gap. Stays tall in lower half to help create leverage. At 3B, had a consistent defensive workout with a reliable glove hand and deliberate tempo. Ranges laterally at a controlled pace & maintains body control. Gets into a wide set up while funneling ball out front before it gets deep into his stance. Glove-tap exchange into high ¾ slot. Quality arm strength up to 85 across the diamond. At C, has solid mobility in his hips, allowing him to set up low and work beneath the ball. Glove hand shows strength when receiving. Solid footwork getting out of crouch and aligning body with target. Arm action stays short/tight. High ¾ release with accurate carry out of hand. Backside gets thru after release.

Tegan Connors 2B / OF / Kelso , WA / 2021

Proportional frame at 5-foot-10, 150 pounds with room for more strength. Sets up from the left side with a tall, extended lower half and an open stance. Uses a knee-knock load to gather weight back. Lands with a wider, closed off stance. Hands show a quick, tight load to shift down and back lower shoulder line. Takes a short, direct path to the ball while keeping hands tight to core. Level finish with barrel as he rotates thru contact. Mostly line-drive approach throughout BP. Defensively, starts in a tall pre-pitch set up prior to approaching the ball from SS. Consistent, deliberate footwork as he widens out his base and funnels ball in. Flashed a quick release with a speedy exchange into his throwing motion. No wasted movement as he gets to release. Arm actions stays high with a short path. Over the top release with true carry out of hand.

Braeden Gee OF / 2B / Kamiak , WA / 2021

Lean, wiry type athlete at 5-foot-8, 150 pounds. Balanced frame between upper and lower half. Offensively, shows a very upright, narrow starting position in the box. Hands use a rhythmic, scoop type load as he starts a knee-knock move with his lower half and gets into his forward stride. Shows some weight shift into his back hip then lands in a balanced position to initiate swing. Barrel works into the zone early and shows a flat path into contact. High, 2-handed finish. Middle of the field approach in BP. Solid rotation from lower half as he finishes swing. In the OF, moved with steady footwork and a controlled tempo. Had the chance to show off his actions while going back on a ball, demonstrating a ‘turn and burn’ approach before grabbing the ball at its peak. Gets into a side shuffle move to crate more momentum behind the throw. Full arm path with continuous arm action into a ¾ release.

Preston Glover C / 3B / Kamiak, WA / 2021

5-foot-7, 145 pounds with a proportional frame and a lower half that carries some strength. In the box, lower half starts narrowly open while he gets set in a tall stance with barrel resting on rear shoulder. Shows a controlled move to hover on backside as front foot elevates and takes short forward stride. Upper half shows a rotational scap load/coil to stretch hands back and create separation. Mature, contact approach in BP. Working mostly middle of the field with an easy, repeatable swing and flat barrel path. Defensively, presents a compact target behind the dish and stays quiet while receiving. Feet start slightly staggered with left side angled more out in front. Exchanges ball at about chest height when throwing down. Consistent footwork and actions coming out of crouch. Release from a high ¾ slot. Glove side stayed strong and allowed backside to come thru after release.

Ayush Krishnappa SS / OF / Tesla STEM/Redmond, WA / 2021

6-foot, 175 pounds with added size/strength in upper half since our previous look last summer. High waisted athlete with long levers. Starts tall in the box with slight bend on his backside. Barrel starts flat before starting a tight, compact load with hands, creating a more vertical angle. Lands in a wider, more athletic base and engages lower half/core well as he initiates swing. Showed consistent bat speed capable of generating hard contact. Peak exit velocity up to 96.90 in BP. Presently more gap to gap power but could see more loft in swing as he continues to develop. Stays short, tight with his actions and then gets extension after contact with a long, one-handed finish. Defensively, moves well on the INF with easy footwork and solid body control overall. Showed tempo and feel for the play while keeping momentum behind then ball then working thru smoothly as he funnels in. Controls soft glove hand then uses a glove-tap exchange into his throwing motion. Separates high then uses short, bent arm action into release. Above average arm strength across the diamond, up to 87 mph.
