JANESVILLE, WI - No. 2 Sun Prairie (10-3) halted their two-game skid and knocked off No. 1 Janesville Craig (12-2) by a score of 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at Janesville Veterans Field. Madison JC commit, RHP Taylor Jansen outdueled Craig’s RHP Mitchell Woelfle, an Air Force commit, and LHP Luke DePrey stamped out the Cougar seventh-inning rally to secure the victory.

Janesville Craig got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI-single by Luke Malmanger, scoring leadoff-man Dan Blomgren, a Michigan commit. That would be the only run the Cougars would get off Jansen. The senior right-hander ran his fastball up to 90 mph over the course of his six innings pitched, allowing one run on three hits, while striking out six and walking four.

Woelfle held the Sun Prairie offense in-check over the first three innings, but the second time through the lineup was a different story for the Cardinals. Carson Holin led the fourth inning off with a walk and a single by Jack Zander set-up first and second with nobody out. Alex Oakley capitalized on the situation, belting an RBI-double to tie the game at 1-1. Luke DePry followed with an RBI-single, giving Sun Prairie the 2-1 lead. Sophomore Joe Hauser added another run for good measure with an RBI-single of his own.

DePrey extended the Cardinals lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning on his single to center field, scoring Zander.

Sun Prairie was forced to make a call to the bullpen to close out the seventh inning, with Jansen having reached the 100-pitch limit. The Cardinals were forced to use two relievers to record the final three outs as the Craig offense would not go down quietly. The Cougars managed to load the bases with one out. Tressin Kussmaul delivered with a single, scoring one run. Illinois commit, and 2018 MLB Draft prospect, C Jacob Campbell brought Craig to within one-run with his sacrifice fly.

An intentional walk loaded the bases once again for Craig, but were unable to get any more runs across. DePry would get, Minnesota commit, Noah Berghammer to groundout to the second baseman to end the game.

Leading the way offensively for Sun Prairie were Oakley, DePry, and Hauser, who all recorded two hits on the day, including a double apiece for Oakley and Hauser. For the Cougars,  Judson commit JJ Brennan led the way with two hits in three plate appearances. In a losing effort, Woelfle finished with a line of: 4.1 IP, six hits, four earned runs, two walks, three strikeouts.
