PBR Illinois Player of the Week: INF Owen Housinger

The Stevenson Patriots entered this season with high expectations for their squad and backed that up with a 25-win season, finishing third in a tough North Suburban conference. There’s plenty of talent on Stevenson’s roster, but senior INF Owen Housinger (2022; Wisconsin-Oshkosh) is swinging a red-hot bat that’s stood out amongst his peers. So far in the month of May, Housinger is slashing .556/.600/1.056 with 20 hits, including three home runs, seven doubles, a triple, and 21 RBIs. He’s scored 11 runs and walked (4) as much as he’s struck out (4), too. p

Housinger’s four-game stretch last week helped contribute to his monthly totals and, in turn, earned him our final ‘Player of the Week’ honors for the regular season. He dominated for the Patriots last week, recording an extra-base hit in all four of their games. Housinger set the tone early on against Libertyville on Monday, racking up three hits - all of which went for extra bases. He homered and doubled twice, plating four as a result. Housinger picked up two more hits on Tuesday against the Wildcats, blasting another home run and bringing three runners home in total.

Housinger’s hot streak continued towards the latter half of the week, as he propelled Stevenson to back-to-back victories over Whitney Young and Evanston, respectively. He kicked off the Patriots’ offense with a two-run double in the bottom of the first against Whitney Young and followed that up by blasting a three-run shot in the following frame - finishing the game with five RBIs on two swings of the bat. Housinger concluded his week with another two hit day, plating a pair and doubling yet again.

The Wisconsin-Oshkosh signee finished the week with a .688/.706/1.563 triple-slash, totaling 11 hits that included five doubles, three home runs, and 15 RBIs. He’s sustained his success offensively throughout the season, pacing the Patriots at the plate with 41 hits and 46 RBIs in 93 at-bats, stringing together a .441/.491/.763.

For his efforts, Housinger has been named the PBR Illinois Player of the Week, for the week of Monday, May 16 through Sunday, May 22. We're thankful for the POTW submissions we received from the coaches across the state. The players who garnered POTW consideration will earn a place within Friday's Diamond Notes story, so be on the lookout for that by the end of this week.
