Q&A With Toledo Commit Isaac Flowers

By: Pete Hamot
Assistant Director, Illinois & Wisconsin

INF Isaac Flowers (Newton Community, 2024) was one of the more talked about players throughout the State Games within our scouting staff. Also a running back and linebacker for his respective high school, he's listed at a physical 6-foot, 190-pounds with round shoulders and present strength throughout. The two-sport standout impressed early at the State Games with a 6.74 60-time, also recording a 1.64 10-yard split and 20.4 mph peak run speed. His athleticism transfers over to the infield, where he boasts easy, fluid footwork to pair with quick/clean hands. The left-handed hitter was on the barrel a handful of times throughout the event, generating exit velocities in the mid-90s with his compact and explosive stroke. Not only did Flowers catch our staff's attention at the event, but he also popped on numerous other schools' radars, eventually committing to Toledo not long after the event's conclusion.

We recently had the chance to talk with Flowers about his recruitment process, as well as some other fun topics along the way.

Our Q&A

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Isaac: I didn’t have any expectations with the recruiting process, however I had goals. My main goal was finding a place that felt like home and that had coaches that were invested in my development as a player. I was also looking for a program that I could have an opportunity at multiple positions to earn playing time right away.

P: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

I: Honestly it was a big leap for me. I’m a home guy, but with what Toledo had to offer, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

P: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

I: The recruiting process started heating up for me this past summer (before Senior year). Toledo’s coaches came and watched me play in a tournament early summer in Cincinnati and a later tournament in Indianapolis.

P: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?

I: I like that Toledo is part of a very strong conference (Mid American Conference) where I will be facing great competition with a competitive schedule. Toledo is a very supportive community that supports their student athletes. The coaching staff actively communicated with me which played a crucial role in my decision.

P: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?

I: RHP/OF Tanner Thomas (Arcola, 2025; Louisville commit): Tanner is a five tool player. Not only that but he has great character and is a very competitive dude.

P: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

I: It’s always been a dream of mine to play college baseball.  I don’t know when I realized I could play at the next level, but I have always been serious about the game and becoming better.

P: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

I: Outwork everyone around you and take stock in your character and who you are as a person.

P: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

I: I can’t say I have a specific “moment” as my favorite. Every time I get to reunite with guys I’ve played with/or when I see those guys go on to succeed. Those are my favorite moments!

P: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?

I: We should be a pretty solid 2A baseball team. Our program has had success for a while. Our senior class will be pretty good this year and we will have some younger guys that will step up and be big for us. I think we could accomplish some big things this year.

P: How did the Future Games and/or the Illinois State Games affect your recruitment process? Did you receive more attention following the event(s)?

I: The Illinois State Games really heated up the recruiting for me and I received many calls in the days following the event.

P: Who is the next talented young player to keep an eye on out of your high school or travel program?

I: 1B/RHP Isaac Wendler (Father McGivney, 2026).
