This summer, on Aug. 9 and 10, the PBR Illinois staff hosted the inaugural Illinois State Games at the Rantoul Family Sports Complex in Rantoul, Ill. – a central location allowing prospects from all corners of the state to meet in one place to perform and compete alongside and against each other.

For this event, we invited the top players in Illinois, spanning grad classes 2023-2026. Our mission was to bring the highest level talent in the state to one location for this two-way event. Rosters and teams will be composed of players from each grad class, setting the table to see who are, pound-for-pound, the state's top prospects.

We rolled the top 2023 position players yesterday, and now we are making our way into the top arms from the state’s current senior class that attended the event, taking into account their prospect status and in-game performance. Before we go any further, here are a couple of names that just missed the top-15: 

+ An arm that just missed the cut was RHP Alex Day (Andrew). Standing 6-foot-2, 190-pounds, the right-hander still has plenty of room to fill out in his frame. Already an athletic and flexible mover down the mound, Day ran his fastball up to 87 mph while showing some feel for a downer breaking ball and fading changeup. He finished gameplay with two innings pitched, one strikeout, one walk and no hits or runs allowed. 

+ Another arm worth mentioning is RHP Jared Rodriguez (Harvest Christian). Listed at 5-foot-10, 175-pounds, Rodriguez is a fluid and athletic mover down the mound, boasting some moxie and confidence when he toes the rubber. He has a quality three-pitch mix with a sinking fastball up to 84 mph, breaking ball that flashed sharp 11/5 action at 71-73 mph and a deceptive changeup that is thrown with arm-speed at 78 mph. His final stat-line for the event was three innings pitched, three strikeouts, three walks, two hits and no earned runs allowed.
