Recruiting Roundup: 12/11 to 12/17

Today, we’ll address all the Illinois prospects who made the decision to announce their commitment throughout this past week. There were a total of 19 commitments over this time frame, a majority of them being seniors. Lets take a look at who's headed where. 

2023

Brayden Bakes OF / RHP / Huntley, IL / 2023

Wichita State University 

1/31/21

Positional Profile: OF
Body: 5-foot-9, 178-pounds. Strong frame.
Hit: LHH. Wide setup, slight knee bend, toe-tap, short stride, simple pre-pitch actions. Short, fluid swing, advanced bat path, drives the baseball getting extension, flashed bat speed with 72.7 MPH bat speed, gap-to-gap approach finding consistent hard contact.
Power: 97.08 max exit velocity, averaged 90.5 mph. 275’ max distance.

Leo Anderson OF / Lake Forest, IL / 2022

Johns Hopkins University 

3/13/21

Positional Profile: OF
Body: 6-0, 190-pounds. Strong and muscular build.
Hit: RHH. Sets up in a wide and open stance, arm bars at load, barrel wraps during load.  Bat travels on an uphill plane through contact. Looks to drive the ball up the middle.
Power: 92.68 max exit velocity, averaged 83.13 mph. 330’ max distance. Has present bat strength, swings with intent.
Arm: RH. OF - 83 mph. Long arm action from an over the top arm window. Arm played with some accuracy from the outfield.
Defense: Has solid range in the outfield. Sure handed with a clean exchange.
Run: 6.98 runner in the 60.  

Julian Budziszewski C / 3B / Morton West, IL / 2022

College of DuPage 

Julian Budziszewski (Morton West) is a right-handed bat that impressed with one of the more polished rounds of BP on the day. He repeated a loose, athletic swing that stayed on plane and worked gap-to-gap. Taking reps both behind the plate and on the infield, Budziszewski showed the ability to move around the diamond as needed. From a catching standpoint, Budziszewski possesses steady hands, a clean transfer, athletic and directional feet out of the crouch, and showed to be an active, willing blocker throughout the day during bullpens. On the infield, Budziszewski’s hands transfer onto the dirt, showing smooth hands with a quick, clean transfer, accurate throwing arm and athletic footwork which gives him the ability to move side-to-side with ease. 

Andy Buskohl RHP / Rochelle, IL / 2022

Carroll University

Positional Profile: RHP
Body: 6-4, 200-pounds.
Delivery: Stretch only, tall and fall delivery, square landing.
Arm Action: RH. High 3/4 slot, long arm action.
FB: T81, 80-81 mph. Plays with arm-side-run. T2094, 2052 average rpm.
CB: 64-65 mph. 11/5 shape, slurve spin, with gradual action. T1433, 1305 average rpm.
CH: 72-74 mph. Commanded in the zone.  T1643, 1619 average rpm.

Cole Collins 1B / Libertyville , IL / 2022

Babson College

Body: 6-1, 190-pounds.
Hit: LHH. Wide, balanced setup, quick leg kick, short stride. Short, aggressive swing, direct path to ball, consistent hard contact, line drives, gap-to-gap approach.
Power: 96.14 max exit velocity, averaged 87.47 mph. 323’ max distance.
Arm: LH. INF - 77 mph. Short arm action, high 3/4 arm slot.
Defense: Works around baseball with proper direction, steady hands.
Run: 7.11 runner in the 60.

Will Hayes RHP / 1B / New Trier, IL / 2022

Body: 6-0, 180-pounds.
Delivery: Tall and fall delivery, toe land square and on target.
Arm Action: RH. High 3/4 slot, long arm action.
FB: T84, 82-83 mph. 11/5 shape, gradual break, worked down in the zone. T2019, 1947 average rpm.
CB: 68-70 mph. Armside action, similar armspeed as the fastball. T2442, 2195 average rpm.
CH: 75-76 mph.  T1838, 1758 average rpm.

Luke Leombruni OF / 1B / Boylan Catholic, IL / 2022

St. Charles CC

OF Luke Leombruni (Boylan Catholic). Leombruni popped as a follow name at the Chicagoland Open in August and built on that performance, showcasing twitchiness nestled inside a 5-foot-9, 140-pound frame. Leombruni glided to a 6.59 in the 60-yard dash, the day’s best, improving a few ticks on his previous 6.64 time back in August. He oozes both hand and bat speed at the plate, flicking his wrists to accelerate his barrel through the zone while making line drive contact to the pull-side. 

Jack Obman C / 2B / Plainfield Central, IL / 2022

Saint Xavier University

Positional Profile: C/2B
Body: 5-foot-7, 130-pounds. Small lean build.
Hit: RHH. Open stance, hands load, short stride. Long level bat path, pull-side approach, repeatable and finishes on balance.
Power: 77 mph exit velocity from the tee.
Arm: RH. C - 65 mph. INF - 66 mph. Long arm action, over-the-top slot.
Defense: 2.43-2.58 pop times. Wide set up, chest centered with pitcher, quiet glove.
Run: 8.02 runner in the 60. 

Aaron Orzech C / 2B / Homeschooled - Plays for Crossroads Christian Academy, IL / 2022

Saint Xavier 

9/16/20

Positional Profile: C/2B
Body: 5-10, 155-pounds. Lean build.
Defense: 2.13-2.25 pop times. Worked out behind the plate and on the infield. Narrow base from the crouch, quick feet interchange in line to the bag, short to release. Nimble on his feet in the infield, glove plays under center of body, clean hand transfer.
Arm: RH. C - 73 mph. INF - 74 mph. Short arm action, 3/4 slot behind the plate. Throws from a low 3/4 angle in the field.
Hit: RHH. Crouched stance, open base, hands start over center of body and load back, bat wraps, leg kick trigger.  Short bat path, pull-side approach.
Power: 82 mph exit velocity from the tee.
Run: 7.35 runner in the 60.

Drew Piaskowy RHP / OF / South Elgin , IL / 2022

Elgin CC

Positional Profile: RHP/OF
Body: 6-2, 180-pounds. Lanky levers that project.
Delivery: Tall/fall type delivery, big swinging leg kick to balance point, front side stays strong throughout. Works in line to target, closed-toe landing, athletic finish.
Arm Action: RH. Short and loose arm action, high 3/4 arm slot.
FB: T83, 82-83 mph. Flashed arm-side run with above-average spin traits; some strikes.  T2299, 2180 average rpm.
CB: 69-71 mph. Sharp 11/5 shape, feel for pitch.  T2234, 2153 average rpm.
CH: 69-72 mph. Near fastball arm speed, primarily straight action that flashed sink.  T1665, 1613 average rpm.

Michael Pustelnik LHP / 1B / Andrew, IL / 2022

Lindenwood University 

LHP Michael Pustelnik (Andrew) emerged as an intriguing arm to follow. Long-limbed, strong 6-foot-3 210-pound frame, Pustelnik moved well down the mound for his size. Long/loose arm action from a ¾ slot with a flexible drop-and-drive lower-half, Pustelnik produced an easy fastball in the 81-82 mph range with arm-side life. His breaking ball worked in the 69-70 mph range with a biting 2/8 shape, which he paired with a fading changeup at 75-78 mph. 

Joshua Rogde SS / RHP / Burlington Central, IL / 2022

University of Dubuque 

Hit: RH. Quiet in the box, balanced setup, smooth load, short stride.  Bat travels on a level plane through the zone, line drive approach.
Power: 68 mph exit velocity from the tee.
Arm: RH. OF - 71 mph. Long arm action, high 3/4 slot.
Defense: Patient to the baseball, feet work around at times, steady hands, clean transfer.
Run: 7.88 runner in the 60. 

Andrew Sellers 2B / SS / Libertyville, IL / 2022

Carleton College

Positional Profile: 2B
Body: 5-10, 135-pounds.
Hit: RHH. Balanced setup, slight knee-bend, small stride. Short swing, works to inside of ball, showed ability to use the whole field.
Power: 73 mph exit velocity from the tee.
Arm: RH. INF - 73 mph. High 3/4 arm slot, short action.
Defense: Tries to work around the ball, towards target, fields from the center at times, showed athleticism in double play turn.
Run: 8.13 runner in the 60. 

Colin Small SS / 2B / Mount Carmel, IL / 2022

Heidelberg University

Positional Profile: SS/2B
Body: 5-7, 150-pounds. Small, athletic frame.
Hit: RHH. Open, balance stance, loads into the back leg, leg stride to even. Short level swing, line drive type hitter, gap-to-gap approach.
Power: 81.33 max exit velocity, averaged 71.63 mph. 241’ max distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 78 mph. Short arm action, over-the-top slot, throws play with carry.
Defense: Pre-pitch hop, gets around the baseball, athletic footwork, sure handed, works out in front.
Run: 7.27 runner in the 60. 

Abram Wills RHP / C / Coal City, IL / 2022

Heartland CC

Positional Profile: RHP/C
Body: 6-0, 195-pounds.
Delivery: Drop and drive delivery.
Arm Action: RH. High 3/4 slot, long arm action, quick arm.
FB: T88, 86-87 mph. Armside sink and run. T2144, 2083 average rpm.
CB: 66-68 mph. 10/4 sharp sweeping action. T2346, 2277 average rpm.
CH: 76-78 mph. Straight with slight fade. T1438, 1375 average rpm.
