TEAM OUTLOOK

The reigning District 17 Champion Cy-Fair Bobcats, bring back another exciting group in 2024 led by Coach Billy J. Hardin. The Bobcats roster looks for their team athleticism and pitching depth to carry them into the 6A postseason in 2024.

Leading things off for the Bobcats’ returning roster is a trio of All-District players from a year ago in senior RHP/INF Austin Godwin (uncommitted, 1st Team), senior RHP/CIF Thomas Carroll (uncommitted, Honorable Mention), and junior C Donovan Abel (uncommitted, Honorable Mention). Godwin is currently ranked No. 129 and remains one of the top uncommitted seniors left in the state. Additionally, Godwin is a two-time Texas State Games participant where most recently in September, he put up a max exit velocity of 99.9 mph with the bat. Another senior who should play a lot for the Bobcats this spring is INF Josh Kapp (2024; uncommitted).

To go with the aforementioned Abel, the Bobcats’ junior class returns some solid pieces as well. Baylor commit, INF Bo Caraway (2025), is projected to be the team’s opening day shortstop and is currently ranked No. 71 in the state for his class. Right behind Caraway in the rankings at No. 73 is LHP/OF Dylan Rostron (2025; uncommitted). Rostron was spotlighted in November by our staff as one of the top remaining uncommitted players in the state for the 2025 class after his State Games performance that saw him work his fastball up to 85 mph.

There is plenty of talent within the Bobcats’ underclassmen ranks too, that will be expected to contribute in 2024 and beyond. Most notable is sophomore Rice commit, RHP/INF Isaac Robles, and LHP/OF Clayton Crosby (2026). Robles is currently ranked within the top-100 for the Texas 2026 class at No. 80, with Crosby right in front of him at No. 79. This sophomore pair will aim to be building blocks for Coach Hardin’s program for the next three years. Another pair of sophomore two-ways that will be joining the fold in 2024 are RHP/OF Jordan Schoenvogel and LHP/INF Wade Sebek. A freshmen duo for the Bobcats worth monitoring in the future will be OF/RHP Finn Venker and OF/RHP Gage Booher.

Despite losing a lot of production off of a 2023 squad that finished as 6A Area Finalists, the Bobcats remain one of the team’s our staff will be monitoring throughout the spring. When you factor in the athleticism of the roster and the pieces they have on the mound, look for Cy-Fair to be a threat again come 6A playoff time.
