Plainfield Central is coming off a strong 2022 campaign, finishing the year with a 27-10 record. They are off to a hot start once again, currently boasting an 8-3 record in the young 2023 season. Central played a total of six games this past week to a 5-1 record, and it would be an understatement to say that MIF Phillip Carlton (2023) was a key contributor to their success. For his efforts and outstanding performance, Carlton has been named this week’s PBR Illinois Player of the Week.

On the week, Carlton finished at an eye-opening 12-for-15 clip with two home runs, two doubles, 10 RBIs, seven runs scored, four walks and four stolen bases - boasting an OBP of .842 and slugging % of 1.333.

Carlton, a North Central (IL) football commit, got his week started going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, helping the Wildcats to a 12-2 victory over Ottawa.

The following day, Carlton went an impressive 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored in a 14-1 blowout win over Kewanee.

On Thursday, Carlton helped the Wildcats take down No. 14 Lockport by the score of 11-9 - as he went a perfect 2-for-2 at the dish with an RBI.

Sunday was perhaps Carlton’s most impressive day, as he went 4-for-4 with a home run, double, three RBIs and three runs scored as he helped the Wildcats to a 10-0 win over No. 20 Joliet West. Central would fall in their second game of the day to Joliet Catholic by the score of 6-4, but Carlton was still producing - as he went 1-for-2 with an RBI, run scored and two walks.

Carlton is now batting an astounding .714 on the year at a 15-for-21 clip with two home runs, a triple, two doubles, 13 RBIs and 10 runs scored.

We're thankful for the POTW submissions we received from the coaches across the state. The players who garnered POTW consideration will earn a place within Friday's Diamond Notes story, so be on the lookout for that by the end of this week.
