The 2024 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The defending 3A State Champion Boyd Yellowjackets and Coach Brad McIntire return a loaded team yet again in 2024. The Yellowjackets will have a veteran-led team with a deep pitching staff coming back, as well as a solid defensive group for 2024.

Boyd brings back a talented senior class led by NCTC commit and one of Coach McIntire’s son’s, RHP/INF Braden McIntire, who was the 3A Player of the Year and First Team All-State in 2023. Another two-way standout within the Boyd senior class is RHP/UTL Eric Rogers (uncommitted), who was the 3A State Tournament MVP last year, as well as First Team All-State. The other returning seniors for Boyd include outfielders OF Jake Thomas (uncommitted), OF Morgan Cain (uncommitted), and C/OF Aaron McGilvery (uncommitted), as well as UTL Houston McIntire (uncommitted), who is Coach McIntire’s nephew.

Junior INF Jax Heid (uncommitted) returns for Boyd in 2024 after being a Third Team All-State selection last season. Heid will be joined by returning sophomore standouts RHP/OF Colton Patton (Honorable Mention All-State in 2023) and RHP/INF Elijah Webber, who is currently ranked No. 46 in the state for his class and was a winner at our North Texas Top Prospect Games in July.

Boyd won’t be without freshman contributors in 2024 as RHP/UTL Will McIntire is expected to be the second of Coach McIntire’s sons to contribute for the 2024 squad. McIntire, who is a two-time PBR Junior Future Games participant, is an impressive two-way player for his age and is currently ranked No. 8 in the state and No. 62 nationally.

There is a lot to be excited about as you look at what Boyd will be running out onto the diamond in 2024. With their returning pitching staff, veteran leadership, defense, and exciting young players, look for Boyd to be a 3A championship contender again this season.
