At the end of each calendar year, the PBR Wisconsin Staff highlights the 10 most viewed profiles of 2023 in the state of Wisconsin. Today, we’ll be continuing our way up to the top spot with No. 8 and unveiling the No. 1 most viewed profile Dec. 30.

Our profiles serve as an all-in-one platform for players, hosting vendors such as verified stats, event video, contact information, and more. To create a free PBR profile, click HERE.

Wrapping up our coverage of the most-viewed profiles of 2023 is MIF JD Dix (Whitefish Bay, 2024; Wake Forest commit) who ranks at No. 1, for the second year in a row.

Dix is currently the top-ranked prospect in Wisconsin’s 2024 rankings and ranked at No. 53 in Prep Baseball’s 2024 National Rankings. The Wake Forest commit being at the top of the most-viewed profiles is no surprise, given the 2023 year that he enjoyed.

The switch-hitting infielder has all the tools necessary to succeed at the next level, whatever that next level may look like for him. Standing at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, Dix has a projectable frame that allows for further development in coming years. At the plate, Dix features an athletic setup that displays fluidity and control when in the box. Often finding the barrel, he has posted advanced hitting metrics that display the power he possesses from both sides of the plate. Defensively, Dix is one of the classes’ premier prospects as his glove and feet work in tandem, looking every bit the part of a true shortstop at the next-level. Athletically, the Blue Duke has posted a 60-yard dash of 6.48 seconds that can be seen when translated to gameplay with an explosive first step that springboards his running abilities.

During the spring, Dix was part of the Whitefish Bay roster that brought the school their first state championship. After missing part of the season due to injury, Dix was plugged back into the lineup and posted a batting average of .452, an OPS of 1.329, 37 stolen bases, and drove in 30 runs. Adding to the prolific month that June was for Dix, he was named to the PBR Wisconsin WIAA All-State Second Team, with our staff writing the following regarding the honor:

“Even though he was limited on the diamond due to injury in 2023, Dix made his impact felt at the plate and at the second base position to lead Whitefish Bay to a Division 1 State Championship. The switch-hitter was a spark and run-producer for the entirety of the season for the Blue Dukes, hitting .452 with eight doubles, two triples, and two home runs. Dix would end up scoring 36 times throughout the year, powering a strong Whitefish Bay offense, which scored 42 runs in six playoff games. Unfortunately for his contenders, Dix’s speed is just another part of his skill set that they have to attempt to prepare for, as the to-be senior stole 37 stolen bases. He was able to take over the second base position, paired with fellow teammate MIF Jack Counsell (2023; Michigan) up the middle, which made for a nearly flawless middle infield. Dix returns as one of the top prospects in the Badger State in 2024, as he secures his second straight All-State award in 2023.”

Making his rounds through the Prep Baseball scene, Dix featured at numerous events this year, the most notable of the bunch being the inaugural 2023 Prep Baseball All-American Game - which features workouts and gameplay for some of the best prospects from the current upperclass. The national event, hosted in his home of Milwaukee, allowed Dix the opportunity to show out in front of many eyes as he entered the event as uncommitted. To no shock, Dix impressed during the workout portion of the event as he posted his top 60-yard dash and reinforced previous notions surrounding his abilities. Following the event, in mid-December, Dix announced his commitment to Wake Forest, ending the chase for one of the top uncommitted talents in his class.

It was yet another tremendous year for Dix, something our staff has come to expect from him. After willing his team to a State Title, he shined all across the summer circuit, looking every bit the part of a high-end talent on the national scene. Now as a senior, Dix will look to continue to make noise throughout the year, and raise his stock as his name has been linked with the 2024 MLB Draft.

Scouting Report

6/26/23

At the plate, the switch-hitter looked a grade better from the left side with more fluidity and better barrel control. Settling into an athletic base from both sides, a short stride allows the hands to take minor separation before generating impressive bat speed through the zone. Moving with ease from the left side, Dix turned the barrel with some authority in showcasing some power potential to all fields including the ability to change planes and hit to all fields... Just coming back from an arm injury that kept him off of shortstop for much of the spring, the arm strength was clearly not there (yet) in workouts, but it provided no ill effects with regards to the glove. Twitchy with the leather with innate ability for finding the right spot in the mitt even when balls took tough hops, the natural instincts seen in other elite prep shortstops is clearly present in the Wisconsin native, and there is an ease, yet intensity, to the way that he goes about his business on the defensive side of the ball.
