2017 Overall Rankings: Wisconsin Analysis

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Supervisor – Wisconsin/Illinois

The 2017 rankings got an overhaul last week, we released the updated Wisconsin rankings along with taking a look at the risers and new comers to the list. Then the overall rankings were updated, which spans our current 27-state coverage area, featuring a new No. 1 in Florida’s Alejandro Toral (Archbishop McCarthy HS), arguably the nation’s biggest left-handed bat.

The top 300 prospects in our overall rankings features seven Wisconsin prospects, not quite the number the state has seen compared to the previous two classes but no the less a very formidable group. Leading the way is LHP Augie Mihlbauer (Mukwonago) who held his ground in the top 40 despite the added states to our coverage area. Mihlbauer has impressed all year with his loose ¾ arm action that shows upper 80’s velocity.

The rest of the top seven virtually held their spot as well with RHP Nathan Burns (West Bend West) jumping 30 spots into the top 150. Burns committed to Oregon State earlier this fall and was one of the biggest sleepers at the PBR Future Games. As Burns continues to mature he is comparing more and more to fellow Wisconsinite Nathan Brown (Arrowhead) who is getting considerable draft buzz this year.

RHP Jacob Lindeman (Burlington), LHP Ben Dragani (Catholic Memorial), LHP Troy Hickey (Wilmot), SS Jack Blomgen (Janesville Craig) and INF/RHP Zach Clayton round out the rest of the top seven in the overall rankings.
